But if I were to post personal examples this thread would need to be moved.

Not yet for me. I have many of the usual suspects blocked since I could not read a post without getting a headache. The incoherence was too much for me. Maybe I should be more open, but I try to use my time wisely and reading gibberish does not fall into that category.

No question, simple exposure to different perspectives generally changes your thought process whether you're aware of it or not.

Yes, and indeed some say that the ability to evaluate new information and alter a view accordingly is a hallmark of a rational being.

In the PARF, there has certainly been had one quite public ideological reversal.

I like the different perspectives. Some guys just rubber stamp every thread with the same old stuff or refuse to criticize their heroes. But others can be pretty thought provoking.

People post and read things in PARF for different reasons.

Maybe not so much to convince others but to congeal their convictions or learn more about a topic.

Then there are the jokers and trolls looking to add some spark to their lives.

Why don't you post this in PARF and get it from the horse's mouth?

Honestly, some of the way I look at things now has been influenced by the back and forth you and I have had over banks etc. Never hurts to get the opinions of those with a different perspective even f you don't agree with that perspective. Same reason I like to read what Shaun has to say even if I don't agree with what he's writing.

I will add another yep.

It is nice to see other opinions from people that are rational. Some posters just post nothing but personal insults and call anyone with a different view childish names. You will learn real fast who to just scroll past and not waste time reading what they wrote. Others actually converse like adults and present view outside your own, or bring in information you would never have known. Some are very eloquent and present a point of view that is understandable. Others can't put a sentence together in normal English and without insults.

I do look in over there occasionally as there are interesting subjects that come up. Topics that Id be curious to see what others here think about, as we are a diverse group with different outlooks that I value, and grow from hearing.

But the trend of insults, belittling, and personal attacts ends up overtaking the discussion of the topic so often that it puts me off.
I've learned that there are folks that do seem to enjoy that way of dealing with each other, as they do it in most of threads no matter the subject.

It's a shame to me that subjects of a political nature that will shape our future are so loaded with rigid opinion and close mindedness that they can't be discussed civilly.
This same situation is common in the country in general so not surprising To find it here I guess.

Cheers Richard

There are things to learn. And a lot of things not to learn.

I see two people, who continue to post, who have changed their opinions.

I will never understand arguing about politics, unless you are a politician.

Gives you something to do when you're really bored at work/retired, or just like to complain.

I hear that if you look in a mirror, and say his name 3 times, he will appear.
