Todays beater car inspection was a good one.

Walk out to car, both outer door handles broken off. Climb in through back seat, twist key,, click, click, click..
Get out of car, forget about handles, and close door . Go in shop, grab jumper pack, run back up in parking lot. Climb back into car through back seat . Reach under dash to unlock hood, pull on the release, and nothing happens.
Repeat the exit and enter vehicle and run in shop for light . Come back out, to find no more hood release cable under the dash anyomre. I find it zip tied under the grill. Open hood, jump car, climb in to pull into shop, no brakes, no power steering, and all sorts of horrible noises coming from the rear suspension area . Get it up in the air, and the frame is rusted through, it has none , zero , no brakes, metal on metal on all 4, and no fliuid in the resevoir .
340 k on a toyota avalon.
I try not to take **** jobs like this, but wifey got fooled on the phone. Car is still carrying a current inspection sticker .( not mine )
She drove it right up to the point where the brake lines failed .
I was mildly entertained , I just hope they tow it out quick. Cannot believe the stuff people drive sometimes .

That is amazing Fred. We have no state inspections in Oklahoma anymore. I see cars that should not be on the road all the time. I just keep my insurance paid up, and hope the morons driving death traps stay away from me.

A delicious flavor of light tan metallic exterior with tan leather inside. I am pretty sure they are farming cigarette butts, and half eaten cheeseburgers on the floor boards. Ive seen abandoned cars in the hood nicer .
Oh yes boyz, it smelled as good as its mechanicals functioned .

I found it funny that in California, no state safety inspection, BUT a mandate of emission inspection.

We have no state inspections in Illinois, but we have this thing called "winter" which tends to take care of the crappy cars...

Yea, when we were in Traverse City, Michigan we saw lots of fairly new cars that were just eaten up with rust. There were almost no old cars. To see a car or truck with rust pouring out of every door handle and the bottom of doors gone in cars just a few years old was weird.

Oklahoma had state safety inspections for years. Then one of the genius state legislators actually said everyone is drives new cars and inspections are not needed anymore.

I told my girlfriend, just make it sound on the phone like the brakes are scratchy. He's only 90 minutes away from Akron. Point it east and try not to use the brakes.

After the phone call make me some hot pockets, get me some Aldi Cheetos and fetch me a Blatz.

No shop that I’m aware of would let a car like that on its property. Why even deal w it?

Yeppppp, huge "fee" grab! CARB is a headache too.

AZ has a OBD2 check on newer cars. No check engine light = pass. $20 biannual tax eerrrr fee. Diesels can have a check engine light, but as long as you keep the opacity under 30% you'll pass. Which most of those times the guy doesn't even plug in the reader, and I get 0.00%.

I refuse to play those games. Small county registration. No emissions, and inspections.
