Is that oratex the stuff they use to wrap big stuff like boats and windmills that have to be driven down the highway? Heat gun to shrink? It looks like it could get frustrating if you don't know what you're doing. (like wrapping a car) But obviously you do!

Herr O, that's a thermo plastic with adhesive on the back. This is a pretty high tech dacron fabric with the UV protective finish factory applied.

Baz, that's pretty sweet! He's using the polyfiber system... lots of work with either system

Whirling noise (almost like a power steering pump low on fluid) coming form the 4.8 Vortec in my '02 Silverado.

Fluid level fine in power steering pump. No driving issues nor anything off at the gauges.

Can't determine where it's coming from. Decided to replace the belt tension idler.

Just did that and the noise didn't go away. Seems to fade once everything warms up.

I replaced the water pump and belt earlier this year.

I wiggled all the pulleys just now before putting tension back on the belt and all felt tight enough.

Old tension idler I replaced felt OK too.

As an aside.....these little finger ratchets are the cat's pajamas!

I'll throw out a long arse guess for ****s and giggles to primarily make fun of myself.
944's use brake fluid instead of power steering fluid for steering.
Mine whined for years, until someone let me in on the little secret.
I now have about 7 million spare power steering pumps in my garage if you need one :)
Probably not the cause, but rule out wrong fluid, since 'warmer' fluid seems to fix it.

Didn't seem to before but just tonight I took it for a test drive and while backing into my drive I turned the wheel slightly and the noise seemed to increase a tad. That's when I started wondering about the pump. Thanks! :)

Yes & thanks, Leaky - good to check out. I did some snooping and read through some Silverado forum threads as well as watched some YT vids and I may try to do a fluid change first to see if it changes anything. There are some additives and also different fluids to consider.

Hiya Baz,

The PSP in GM trucks is the achilles heel and they are all garbage. Lost count how many I have replaced on the green machine. I’ve looked to other options but haven’t found one I’ve liked. Any get new and all are referbed, including ones from our local GMC dealer. Remanufactured if the term they use.

In my last swap, I tried something new, a PS fluid filter. It does require you to cut your line and install it with hose clamps. Just another option you could try. From my notes in 2017

With all of the heavy lifting the K1500 has been doing all summer, and a transmission service later, my left Air Lyft Airbag failed.

Air Lyft has a lifetime warranty on their products and this kit was installed in April of 1999. I filed a warranty case on-line a week ago Tuesday and the replacement(s) arrived today. I expected one so it was a nice suprise to see two new air cells with all the trimmings.

So today I set out making the fix since I need the 95 K1500 for the “project”

Pretty easy job that took about two hours. Took my time, clipped air lines and used the provided new fitting and countless checks to make sure alignment was good and all brackets spot on. Soapy water leak check and now right as rain.

From what I read earlier - the way to go is brand new OEM AC Delco. They aren't cheap but considering the poor reviews the re manufactured ones and lesser brand ones get, gotta be the best value.

More of a tool review than an update but I figured it might help someone else on the thread.

As I inch my way to concrete being poured, I am now at the stage of capstones/pad border. Since I am attempting to perfect something built out of imperfect blocks, I got the dumb idea of grinding the top tier of stone in an attempt to allow the caps to lay down a little cleaner. From my experience of cutting and grinding with a 4” abused grinder, I got the idea of using a larger 7” grinder. For all of you that poo poo harbor freight tools, you can get everything I mention here at Home Depot for substantially more money. I almost went that route but I considered that prediction of using these items again in the future.

Found a 7” grinder at HF for $69.00
Hercules universal shroud/dust pickup $37.99(worth every penny)
7” flesh eating chunky disk for $35.00
7” finishing disk for $35.00

Home Depot
Grinder $129.00
Shroud $70.00
Flesh eating chunky disk $105.00
Finishing disk $59.00

The grinder worked fantastic and the dust collection shroud was worth every penny. It was so effective that it captured so much dust and particles that it ruptured the HD 16 gal shop vac bag and filled all available space with fines. Discovered that due to the velocity and coarseness of the debris, it quickly wore a hole in the new bag and filled the vac up with fines that were more like talcum powder, or silt from the Plya for those that consider themselves “Burners”[emoji6][emoji2957].https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...f363926617.jpg
My solution to this issue since bags are $11.00 each and I don’t want to use one up every grinding session, I will try out a buddy’s whizbang super dust sucker-upper dealio. I also reinforced the actual shop vac bag with some military grade duct tape hoping it will toughen up the bag’s wall where all the debris comes in at high speed.

In 2017, I tried to go brand new from the dealer. All they could due for me and my year PU was sell me an AC Delco reman, and that was from the dealer. Then again, it’s a 1995, yours is much newer.

I hope it works out for you because that would be a great fix. Nice score for $235.00, I think they quoted me close to $400.00 and it seems their way of not dealing with the older vehicles.

After installing the roll bar in my 330, it tilted the seat forward. The back of my head would hit the seats and I couldn’t look up like I wanted to add the rearview mirror.

Made a quick adjustment here at Roebling Road and it made a huge difference. Fortunately, I have my building tools in the truck. I was able to disassemble to drill new holes, then bolt it up.
