I used an engine hoist. It was in a box, which I hope to keep, but the engine lift would not go high enough. I ended up, lifting the engine, just enough to clear the bed and tailgate, then pulled the truck forward, rather than trying to pull the hoist engine away from the truck. Then lowered it down on the dolly I made. My first attempt to lift it covered with the box below. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755491466.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755491685.jpg |
Is the engine going in ASAP? Or are you waiting for yours to fail? If you wait, my guess is you will never install the new one...

So, I’d like to wait for an extended period of cooler weather to work on it. I’ll plan on a week to install it but hopefully it’s less. I’ve been looking online for how to and parts to replace with new “while I’m in there”. I’d like to get it as ready as possible without much down time. Some things like the intake I’ll reuse and it goes on after the engine is in. |
When I got the replacement engine for the RX300, I went ahead and had a new timing belt and tensioner installed along with a new water pump before the engine was installed. You may want to do something like that I guess.

She still runs great - hardly any oil usage. My mechanic said it's the most smooth running and quiet GM engine he has ever heard. I have always been very diligent about oil & filter changes. I change my oil, whenever it starts to get dark looking. I don't go by mileage. And believe it or not - I always use Fram oil filters. |

For sensors, if it doesn’t come with it, I’ve ordered new. I bought a new alternator, as I still have the original one with 235K miles on it. About the only thing I’m not replacing is the throttle body and the coil/cops. I’ll probably replace the cops sooner than later. |

Except for the low oil pressure, the engine runs great. Good gas mileage for a v8, lots of power, doesn’t leak or burn oil. |

Needed a bracket for some handscrews that I like to have handy, but wanted them off the drill press stand. Junk wood from out of the scrap bin. This took an inordinate amount of time, probably spent close to two hours from start to finish. I thought it would take 10 minutes.

Love those things... I've yet to get a set, or 3.

I’m blocking off access under our deck so a grey squirrel won’t be able to build a nest.

Its been a great work week. Started out the day with a fly out breakfast to Idaho.
I worked through a bunch of squaks today, we've put together a mockup assembly so I can now finish the trimming of the front glass as well as the final set-up of the boot cowl... the silver piece. The pace is picking up and the paint process starts next week.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755914994.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755914994.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755914994.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1755914994.jpg |

We’ve been having problems with our washing machine. It would start, add a little bit of water and then stop.
Check for codes and ordered the parts, which were part of the motor underneath the washing machine. Replaced those this morning and so far so good with an empty load wash going …. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756041482.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756041482.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756041482.jpg |
With the fires burning less than 10 miles from here, the crews (over 100 personnel) are being fed at the old military training base. They put out a call for volunteers to help feed them and my wife said she couldn't go in and work in the big kitchen, but could make biscuits and cookies. Then there was a need for sturdy trays in which to transport the goodies. It would be great if they were reusable, but no great loss if they disappeared. I happened to have leftover flooring and shelf scraps, so with some rough measurements, turned these:http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756052603.jpg
Into these: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1756052660.jpg Total outlay was about a half hour of time and 24 screws in the three trays. The first one already had biscuits in it when I took the pics. |
My mechanic (Ivan) just called and said my truck is ready. I had dropped it off Friday morning for inner and outer tie rods, steering rack boots, and drive shaft support replacement.
Couple other minor things. I'll pick it up in the morning. I brought him the parts - so only $600 for labor. And I got to catch up on other odds and ends around the house for the past few days. Works for me! :) |
