Hm.. soaking those corroded steel parts in wood bleach will remove all of that rust.

The "foot" of the reel is the only part that is rusty. The body of the reel is aluminum, gears and inside bits are steel though. I've never heard of wood bleach.

We have a little theater in the lower level of our house. And, years back, I bought an Oppo BDP-93 for Blu Ray playback. While we stream lots, our local library has a huge inventory of blu ray disks. The Oppo wasn't working for the last two or three years. I was planing on getting a service because it is cheap and easy ($99!). But then I thought, why don't I just buy a new one? Which led me to: "why don't I try to fix it?"
A few screws. An hour of head scratching, and a little rubbing alcohol and my Oppo seems good as new. I love little wins like this. |

And you wont believe how well it works. It won't fix pitted chrome but at least at that point you can rub it with wd40 or kosmolene etc.

What's funny is, last week I happened upon an old solid oak Bankers desk chair that needs light restoration, and I had to order a tub of wood bleach crystals. Now I can't wait to try them on rust!

Hilarious... make a solution and soak until rust is gone.

I've been procrastinating and perhaps dreading this task. Originally globs of epoxy and micro were used to fair the fuse to the canopy... not the best option. I heat gunned it off and used a very tenacious bonding agent and layed up glass tape and eventually a bog of mico and milled carbon.. yesterday I shaped it out, and today I layed on the primer... pinholes tomorrow and maybe paint.

Long day today 830am-7pm... im a day behind (wanted to have it in paint yesterday, but today will have to do
The first pic is final sealer on bare fillers and shiners. Second two are the base color. I really like it, its very pewter-ish and the sheen is pretty sweet, but it needs a clear coat. Flat and semi finishes are hell to keep clean... and on aircraft..... that would be a sukfest! I'm shooting the star/bar tomorrow. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Wow. All that hard work paid off. The seams all look like you could roll a BB on 'em. And to my eye, the final sheen works great with that color. Like liquid.
Thanks for bringing us along for the ride.

Those seams/gaps took their toll! They'll look better once all of the hardware and hinge pins go in.

![]() My next project. But if I don’t have time, I may have Stefano at EspressoCare refurbish it. We’ll see how much it needs.
