Still friken cold here. My neighbors furnace was not firing correctly and finally sounded so bad last night the wife shut down the furnace and left it off overnight. They have a gas fireplace down in the basement so the house stayed decently warm.
I went over and had a "quick" look. The draft inducer/ventor motor was a bit noisy on startup but unlike what the owners had described to me, the furnace fired on the first attempt. Cycled it a few times and shut it down.
Found that the drain from the ventor motor assembly was plugged and the noise was due to the fan paddlewheeling through condensate in the fan housing.
Cleaned out the lines and put it back together and it seems good.
Nice to be able to help out a neighbor in need.
Also have a little project in the basement for a can pantry/wine cellar and a spot for another refrigerator in the basement.
Nice to have a project again...

Thanks - I actually have some of that but didn't think to add any of it. Can always put it on next chance I get. I'm so used to thinking of "outside" corrosion protection, when doing things inside - it's not on the radar.

Exactly the same for my tenant this morning. No heat because the inducer motor wouldn't start. Spun it by hand and and it sounded like a Motormeister rebuild. Bearings are toast.

Trying to find a motor within 100 km now. And a seller that doesn't need a gas-fitter's license.

Im making a model of Tic Tok from return to oz. Always wanted one but nobody seems to make one. Its quite difficult! Having to really think about what I can use for different pieces but its looking awesome. Mostly metal but a few pieces of plastic and wood. using jb weld super glue welding and hot glue. I just have the arms and mustache to do then figure out how to go about painting it. Iv got brass colored paint i think im going to rub it off on the belly that already has the brass parts. Might have to watch a few videos on how to do a patina paint job

Picked up a new bedliner this afternoon for the Silverado. The vendor, who owns a truck "stuff" store in South Daytona, was a really great guy. I had called him on Friday and he got it in today so it wasn't laying around in a storage yard behind his business for x period of time, like I have seen happen at other truck supply places.

I still have my old bedliner in the truck and will take my time removing it and touching up the factory bed before installing this new one.

We just dropped it inside my bed and then I picked up a bag of fertilizer from my supplier just a block down from his place which came in handy to help hold the bed down on the ride home.

I have the tailgate piece inside the cab, along with the installation hardware.

Only $200 out the door and this is supposed to be a pretty good brand.

Yesterday I diagnosed and temporarily repaired a faulty element on our 9yo samsung electric dryer. Youtube is magic!

It turned out that the element's NiChrome wires were still just ductile enough to twist together to bridge the break (no photos/evidence were generated). Any failure would have just opened the element again so I judged it pretty low risk. I'll run it at low for the very short term just to avoid those crusty line-dried towels for a few days.

Parts prices are funny - the innermost component of the failed element, so the minimal replacement, was $117. The entire housing including two additional sensors was $123. I splurged and we'll be up to spec by Thursday!

(I know some claim 9 years on this thing was a good run, but that really annoys me. It's a toaster with a motor. How hard can that be?)

Heres the finished Tik-tok love it came out awesome. Iv been working on my jeeps. the willys I had trouble with the front right brake grabbing and locking up. The wheel cyl was leaking and soaking the shoes so i picked up a like new used set and cyls from the jeep forum. Its good now all fixed. Also added some shims to the springs to get the caster more to spec. On the cj5 the parking brake wasnt working its on the back of the t case it gets soaked in oil. I cleaned it and adjusted it but figured out the cable was bound up at the handle. Got it working but will need a new cable eventually. Also had to weld up the axle tube it rusted through where the dirt sits in the spring perch and was leaking oil. It happend on the other side once before. Still looks strong enough just like a 1" crater to fill in.

Very cool. How did you do the arms? As I'm tuning up my plastic printer, thinking that cadding and printing arms would have been fun.

Got the old bed out - wasn't too bad of a job. And washed out all the dirt that had collected over the past 15 years - most of it after I got that split in the center.

I will work on some of the rusted spots before installing the new liner. Probably just spray some converter on them and then a coat of spray enamel.

Took her for a spin after getting it cleaned out and it felt a lot lighter!

Further along on the new bed liner project.

Yesterday I Osphoed the rust in the bed and this morning I washed and scrubbed it out and left it to dry all day in the sun. Then tonight around 6pm I painted it with Rustoleum using a roller. I also used a brush for the spotted areas on the sides.

I went out around 10pm and it was already dry. Then in looking at the weather overnight which called for some showers I decided to go ahead and place the bed liner in place to protect the newly painted bed underneath. It was a very easy one man job to do and it fits like a freaking glove.

So the next step is to lock it in and install the tail gate piece, which I can do tomorrow sometime.

I know this isn't really that big of a project but I've had this truck for the last 15 years and it has helped me operate my business over all those years and I feel like it's my best friend so the sentimental value alone of replacing her bed gives me great satisfaction and it's hard to put into words more than that but some here may understand.

I plan on holding onto her for many more years ahead and will eventually repair all the other items on the restoration punch list.

I pulled my teener out of the garage and gave her a bath today. Also took the top off and went for a spin. Left the top off when I returned her to the garage so I could effect a quicker exit next time I take her out. Rain in the forecast so probably not tomorrow. But here in Florida - you can't predict the weather.

Oh - I also treated some rust spots on her with some Por15 today. Now that I think about it - that's why I brought her outside...lol. Areas below the sail panels.

Built another bamboo gate. This one for the 'other' end of my circular driveway.

There's just enough room to walk around it to the right. Will be building a small door to match the bamboo for that soon.

Fixed the window regulator in my 356 that had come off it's lift rail.

Also installed a wooden gate for that storage area on the north side of my house, after moving the hinges to the other side. This is a gate I salvaged from the back of my property when the fence was taken down to make way for the wall built by the new humans building behind me. I have to say - using my new Ryobi impact driver really made this job very easy!

My 2 car garage has a flat roof. When I bought the house in '96 it was tar and gravel. About 10 years ago we ripped off the old - roof plywood and all - and replaced with peel and stick roll roofing.

Been toying around with adding climate control in there but not quite ready for that now. In the meantime it gets hot inside. I was looking at various roof treatments to help with temp. modification and found one that had really good reviews and sounded like the perfect material for my application.

It's by Black Jack and is a white silicone coating material. I bought a 5 gal. container of it from Lowes about a month or so ago so am now getting ready to do the job.

This morning, in preparation, I power washed the roof. I didn't realize how much crud had accumulated in the 10 years it's been up! Thanks goodness I had my Ryobi surface cleaner attachment which saved me a TON of time and effort. It still took a while to do but I feel much better knowing I went the extra mile to give the coating the best chance for adhesion and durability over time.

I will post followup pics after the coating is done. Not sure when I will do that - maybe the weekend. Maybe tomorrow. Depends on the weather.

Like I've said before, I have a "glacial white," elastomeric coating on my roof. Underneath is a black, flash down, bituminous membrane. After about 10 AM, the membrane would register mid to high 170's. After the elastomeric coating it registered 100F to 110F. The coating wears enough after a few years to need a cleaning and recoating. I also get up on the roof periodically and hose the dirt off. I have the same attachment for my pressure washer, I might give it a try next time I recoat it, although warm water with Dove, a scrub brush and rinse off has worked fine in the past.

Iv been slowly working on this little car for the last few weeks. Its going to be like a MG J2. Iv got a 18hp v twin and morris minor axle for it. Lots of cobbling will go on between them but I think it should work. I still need some wheels and front brakes for it but I should be able to make everything else with junk i have around.
