I don't usually do this often as it takes so much time and its very dirty work, but as a 75th birthday present to my dear neighbor (who is the original owner of his 240Z, bought new in 1973). I polished his valve cover. What are the chances that two Datsun guys are neighbors?! The pictures below show it about 75% complete, it will be near mirror finish by the time I'm done with it and of course obligatory pictures of our cars together.

Finished the shower deck and seat. Still have some more fasteners to put in but will do that in the morning when it's cooler.

That 5/4" thick deck lumber is pretty stout stuff. I used 2 1/2" Deckmate torx head fasteners and my new Ryobi impact driver.

No pictures yet, but yesterday (in the snow), I picked up two John Deere 316 garden tractors, and $1000 worth of lumber/materials to build my wife's new 10'x16' greenhouse. Ohio is being shut down for 2 weeks due to Covid 19, so I will have plenty of time to get a good start on both projects, but still at work today.

Changed the oil and sharpened the blade on my 22" Toro mower. Instead of my electric Hitachi angle grinder I used my cordless Ryobi grinder and it seemed to sharpen a little better for some reason.

I will be servicing my 5 monthly accounts today. Should be done in about 5 hours.

It's warming up already but still cool in the mornings and evening, thankfully.

I wanted to get this antique wood boat working even though i have nowhere really to drive it. Its been on the healing bench since the fall. All the electrics in it were antique as can be probably from the 50s. I didnt want to use any good parts incase it sinks or gets wet. I got an old traxxas truck from a garage sale had a good receiver. I had some extra servos from rc planes. I tried to use a speed control from one of those cheap rc cars but it was spinning the motor way too fast. I ended using a trigger switch from a cordless drill and got it all working. I guess I can play with it in the neighbors pool

^^ That's pretty cool - love to see a video of it in the pool!

Today I worked on a gate I built back in Feb. that ended up leaning inward, despite two gussets and a turnbuckle. It doesn't lean as much now plus I had a nice little sliding bar at the top to help secure it better. I have some more to do on it but happy with this tweaking I did.

When my brother and I used to run RC boats, we used balloons to seal the servos and receivers. A zip tie over the wire or push pull rod, and they seal up well enough to survive most incidents.

Wow, an Eastwing and a Vaughn. I restore those and use beaters for demo. Well, did before the new shoulder. I had to put almost all implements of destruction in the bottom drawer.

Didn't realize I had a couple artifacts! Will have to set them aside for light duty for posterity.

Found out why my electric range stopped working - relieved it was only the receptacle. $7 at HD.

I was surprised at the level of corrosion for something inside the house.

Those 240 outlets are so sketchy the way theyre designed I plugged one in once and it spread the prongs in the center too far and shorted out Nearly shat my pants.

Yeah, I thought the design was terrible. Then at the end trying to plug in the range with only about 3' of cord.....while leaving enough room to squeeze out from behind the range. If they'd only add one more foot of length you'd have it.

Oh and you're a better man than me. I didn't have the cajones to leave the power on when I plugged it in.

Lol so true and those cords arnt cheap either. I think they dont even include them with a new stove anymore. I did remodeling for 10 years sometimes you get lazy. I remember one kitchen I had to change out all the outlets. I did it with the power on and finally after getting zapped about 17 times i shut the power off for the last one or two

Today's projects..............

First off I did an oil and filter change on my Jaguar XJS convertible. The filter hides up under the intake manifold and stuff so changing the filter has to be done from underneath. Fortunately, I have a two post lift in the shop so getting it up into the air was easy. Also, the drain plug is probably the biggest one I've ever seen. It takes a 30mm wrench! Once I got all the old stuff out of the engine, it took 9 qts of oil to fill back up to the dipstick mark! Got cleaned up, ate lunch and then started doing some work on my bicycle (Specialized Hard Rock mountain bike). The original derailleur shifters had gone south so I replaced both units on the handlebars. That went pretty well with just a bit of adjusting left to do tomorrow.

Does fixing (rolling) the mess I made out of my lawn last year by mowing when it was way too wet because it was always way too wet, count as fixing something? If so that's what I did.

Yes.

Two steps forward....one step back.

I've been fixing up my bikes (I got two new ones recently) to cruise around the hood and on the beach here. New grips, mirror, lighting, bottle cages, holder for my stereo, and rack in back to carry stuff. Finally got them done and the county closes the beach down. That didn't sit well with the locals so they finally revised their mandate. Really stupid to say no one allowed on the beach. Some people just want to go for a walk or bike ride. Hell....if anything that helps one fight against sickness.

Volusia County loosens beach restrictions

Quote:
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —

After announcing that all beaches would be closed earlier this week, Volusia County officials said Saturday that they’ve decided to open access to people looking for a place to exercise.

Official said Saturday that the beach remains closed, but a new measure will allow exceptions to the closure for walking, jogging, biking, fishing, surfing and swimming.

Sunbathing, sitting in chairs, organized sports or lying on blankets and grouping of people on the beach remains prohibited.
