The front deck came out pretty good. Still have some work to do but most is done now. Not sure yet on canopy design. It's actually kinda nice with no canopy!

Looking good Baz, when should we plan on the Pelican party?
|
After inspiration from Baz I've setup a sun shade come pinot drinking location on the front lawn. Nothing compared with Baz'z excellent workmanship and style but it's still fun. I'm pretentiously calling it the Cabana in the hope friends will come around for a drink or two in our summer evenings.

Love your fence design and art! BTW, I'm a hacker so save the excellent workmanship for someone more deserving...lol.... |
I needed to cut some Unistrut for a project so I decided to make a mini-chop saw for my angle grinder. The stainless steel offset hinge made it easy.

Cleaning and checking everything.

$30 well spent. Went to HF and bought this to align my wife's car.

String drives me crazy. I will mount it to my camber tool. Where it really shines is going to be able to mark the car's centerline. I just placed it under the car, but you get the idea. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638036464.JPG Even just mounting it to the bottoms of the rims, toe is off somewhere. The camera was in low light, so it's long exposure caused double lines, but this thing is going to rock. The driver side toes in towards the front wheel, the passenger side clears. Once I mark a center line and get the tolerances, I can figure out what is what. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638036603.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638036603.JPG |
Those laser devices are pretty cool, Ron. I will get one at some point, I'm sure.
Self propel stopped working on my mower Wed. so Thursday I investigated and luckily it was just the drive belt came off it's pulley...an easy fix. Did a bunch of stuff today - including replacing the Reed cane between my two drives where I have my canopies. I still have to secure it to the posts and will use my new cordless Ryobi stapler for this. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638574570.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638574570.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638574570.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638574570.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638574570.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638574570.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638574570.JPG |
Had a supervisor this morning while stapling that reed fencing.......these lizards pretty much have the run of the place! :D

Seems like it will work pretty good! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638643818.JPG |
Looking good there Baz. I've been drawing inspiration (as they say) from your work. I've made a small deck/surf viewing platform. It's 5.2m/17 feet long. I had the steel and wood lying around so I thought I'd put them to use.
I've made the cabana more cabana looking too. A few floral enhancements. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639097725.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639097725.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639097725.JPG Delores has been told off for saying to guys "What does a girl have to do to get a drink around here." |

Delores came in white instead of flesh tone? Maybe get those bird of paradise in silk? FWIW, I have some of these solar lights up on mine and they are the cat's pajamas at night! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639108765.JPG |

I had another ten bird of paradise flowers - just plastic ones, so I've added them since. A few friends stopped by and I said "If I can't go to Rarotonga, I'm bringing Rarotonga to me." I've been in a Rarotonga frame of mind LOL |
Fireplace Project
I have a little gas fireplace I had installed about 6 years ago and I never got around to finishing the surround on it. My wife had commented about how it looks unfinished a few weeks ago so it was go time...
Finding a suitable live edge chunk of maple that would work for this was tough and I had been looking for the right piece for a long time. Found this one at Windsor Plywood and it was perfect. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639156299.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639156338.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639156356.jpg A good friend of mine came over and did the cutting with his Festool track saw. He is a finishing carpenter and a very good one at that! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639156508.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639156528.jpg I had made the floating mantle bracket from 1 1/4" flat iron and 1/2" cold rolled. Drilled the flat iron and plug welded the pins. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639156715.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639156751.jpg After the back was routered out to accept the bracket and the holes drilled for the pins, the mantle was trial fitted and finished with Diamond Coat waterborne Varithane. A few blobs of silicone on the back and it was pushed into place. I had to put weight on the one corner while the silicone set up to keep it level. |
Fireplace Part 2
Now that the mantle was up it was time to finish the surround.
Found a product at the home depot and went to work. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639157078.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639157111.jpg Used some off cut slate tiles for the hearth that I had kicking around. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639157224.jpg That went well, I think. |
I may need help... I can't seem to stop once I start! Backsplash for the bar.
The counter for the wet bar area of the basement was also in need of finishing and another long neglected project I hadn't gotten to.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639157443.jpg It had been sitting this way since the cabinetry and countertop were installed about 5 or 6 years ago. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639157506.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1639157519.jpg Figured out how to make my cuts around the electrical box and started doing all the cuts for installation. Second photo the tiles are up and will allow them to set for a day or two before grouting. |
WOW! Looks GREAT Bill!!!!! Nice work, sir! ;)

Beautiful night out on the deck watching antenna TV.......so relaxing......

1960's German-made transistor radio. Basic internal cleaning, cosmetic detailing, antenna repair yesterday. This thing plays great. Pulls in stations none of my 'modern' radios can.
