Holy smokes! Sharks go from down 3-0 midway through the 3rd to up 4-3 after scoring 4 PP goals on a 5 minute major.

That was insane. Still think that Vegas goal should have been called back because of the high stick, but certainly made it more exciting.
San Jose / Colorado should be good. Go Blues though. ![]() |

Make Bruins Great Again

100%
5 Minute majors can be deadly but that said, the Sharks earned their ticket in the next round. Remember that for the first time, NHL.com is opening up the brackets for second round picks. Gee, I wonder why? ![]() I'll be posting my new set of unqualified opinions after tonight. I hope others will do the same. In the meantime, fun facts (some more fun than others) -AFAIK, this is the first time #1 seed in east and west are knocked out in the first round in flames (see what I did there). -As always, the goalies made the difference. Depth players also. -As always, everyone complains about the officiating (unless they are winning). -As always, there are less penalties called (you gotta love that). and my fav -As (almost) always, the Maple Leafs get knocked out of the playoffs by the Bruins. ![]() 4 out of 5 times. back to back years in the first round You gotta admit that Anderson played incredible hockey in game 7 other than the first goal which was a softie. I always wonder what make a team in any sport have that ONE stumbling block they can't overcome. I guess it makes sports psychologists very rich. One more rambling thought. As good as Rask was last night, he's still no Tim Thomas.

The Bruins played well, but the score was not reflective of the play. Either team could have won last night, the Bruins had better bounces.
Interesting attempt by Babcock to match lines, but in the end the big scorers became checkers and the grinders put the puck in the net. (Except for the Tavares goal). Kadri hurt the team, Nylander was an overpaid bust, Marner disappeared for the last gthree games, Tavares shut down the Bruins, but couldn't score, Matthews had some good chances, but at his salary close isn't good enough. Reilly and Anderson were great. The Sharks game was one of the greatest comebacks I have ever seen in the playoffs. Great entertainment.

Goalies like Thomas, Hasek, Roy, Hextall... were in a class all their own. Great players and a blast to watch. In contrast, Brodeur is a hall of famer but not as exciting.

Good points 1990.
Kadri's absence made that line fairly ineffective. The Bruins did an excellent job of shutting Tavares down. His goal in game 7 came because of a mismatched line and he had clear sailing.

The Bruins big line was lights out in the third. They totally shut the Leafs down. They are the complete package. Skill, toughness, defense.
I can see the Bruins in the final.

Counterclockwise?

The inconsistency of the Leafs was their demise. Well it was for the few that showed up.
What was with Chara punching Tavaras in the head during a scrum? It looked like the Bruin player that fell on Tavares after was genuinely concerned about him. Dirty move for Chara. As a Leaf fan part of me wants to see the Bruins go far so that we can say the Leaf's held their own to a strong team. The other part of me wants to see the Bruins fall hard.

Bush league move by Chara. JT is a clean hard working player, totally uncalled for.

Forgot to add:
The five minute penalty in the Sharks game was a terrible call. It was a minor penalty at most. You don't get penalized for a subsequent collision and an awkward fall. Well, I guess you do. But you shouldn't. One poor call cost Vegas the series.

I agree it was a poor call but Vegas had 7 games to win the series . Every team has 7 games to play their best , at this level if you can't play your best you go home . And even if you play your best just a few bounces of the puck sends you home . Tough game for sure .

I thought the difference makers in g7 were the energy line. Pasta has been terrible-bad passes, pass instead of shoot, turnovers all over the place. He is streaky. Bergeron has had super-human faceoff percentages the entire series. Marchand has been his usual self but didn't have a lot of highlight reel goals or moves. I'm just thrilled he made it through without any questionable actions.
