Blank Pages

So, I've been given a Bowflex Revolution and was looking through the assembly manual and noticed at the back there were several blank pages, but printed on them was the statement, "This page left intentionally blank."
I have seen this before in other manuals and just wondered, why do they do this? Why not just omit the pages altogether? I guess they could be used for personal notes, but then the page could be labeled "Notes". Go figure.

perhaps depends on how many pieces are needed and how various other pages line up. Remember each piece of paper in that thing is responsible for 4 pages of text. What happens if you have an odd number of pages and can't easily reformat? Or What if you have an even number of pages, but it isn't a multiple of 4?

Typical of printing presses, You need divisions of 8 pages per sheet of paper used. So, to run a 12 page product manual you'll have 4 blank pages.

Correct except it’s divisible by 4.

It’s also why you see “Notes” pages.

They wouldn’t stitch in four blank pages. Worst case they would leave them on the press room floor. While it is likely that they run it on a sheet fed press in the quantities they would print for that job they would probably run it on a four page press. If they use an 8 page press they would probably divide it into three signatures of 4 pages each and run some other job on the extra sig.

It all depends on the press they're using. 24, 48, 32, 64 signature ( pages). It's cheaper to print a full signature than duplicate and separate, or odd pages.

Plates are another consideration, if these aren't on a digital press.
You don't want to make additional makereadys for odd pages.

You don't separate 4 pages from a signature without major additional cost, they're all folded together, they get bound together (probably saddlestitch). The signature doesn't become leafs (2 pages) until after it is bound and then is trimmed.

Make sense?

8 page press is ridiculous.

Paradox. Once they print "This Page Intentionally Left Blank" on the page, it's no longer left blank.

Let's not get into the grammatical minefield of "This Page Intentionally Left Blank" vs "This Page Left Intentionally Blank."

Or, "Blank, this page is not", as Yoda would say.

Back when I built computers for a living, one of the companies had manuals and they did not have a good translator. They said "This page left blank intently".

Because if you don't people think it's a mistake, that there should have been something there and they've received an incomplete product.

Yes, there are PLENTY of people that dumb and yes, they will call and complain.
