Wow. Monumental. Shocking. That's one of the most historically important buildings in the world.

Watching Parris burn?
“Parris”, you imbecile?

The Fire Brigade in Paris have been fighting fires for something like 900 years, I’m guessing they know what they’re doing.

The damage from putting out the fire will probably equal the damage from the fire.

Maybe instead of fighting it, they just gave up

Do they not have fire fighting helicopters with buckets. Seems like they could have pulled water right from the Seine and done a better job.

The infrastructure has a focus on foot traffic. The streets are clogged.

Looking it its layout and surroundings, Its impossible to stage any aerial apparatus to place master streams, around it, other than the front entrance. Heaviest fire load is in in the rear.

The roof and spire will be rebuilt, never fear. Maybe with sprinklers . . .

Damage to artwork is the big question. The cathedral was being worked on, hopefully some of the artwork was in storage or otherwise covered up.

Notre Dame de Paris has stood for 800 years. The structure is mostly non flammable, I would think. No expense will be spared to rebuild and restore it. It represents a nation and may be the most beloved building in the world, not to mention of immense value to the tourist economy.

My son and I were there last April for a Month.

Sad.

Lost historical art works unimaginable.

I wonder if it was arson. I believe they were doing some work on the building already.

If it started up near the scaffolding could be as simple as sparks from a welders torch
or rags with solvents or mineral spirits on them. Spontaneous combustion.
So very sad.

No argument, it is a beloved building. But I don't think it is number one in the world. There are many other churches, and castles, and other buildings on the list of beloved buildings.

It is truly sad that it happened. With luck the photos of the building before the fire will be enough to rebuild it with 21st century materials.
