I've driven that stretch a few times, it's near Amboy Crater.

There's kind of an air strip there. Kinda. LOL They had a small fly-in there I believe in January. Not sure what year. I'd like to fly there myself some day. I would vote absolutely yes. Preserving the history of our nation is a great use of tax dollars, and Route 66 is a big part of our nation’s history.

There is a small airfield on the west side of the road thar leads to the ancient volcanos. I have forgotten the name of it.

Edit: The airfield is Double Eagle II or for the aviators KAEG. It is up on West Mesa along Atrisco Vista Blvd, which heads north off of US40 and becomes Paseo Del Norte heading east just south of Rio Rancho.
