The '06 4s I'm rebuilding looks like yours, customer's doing the full LN treatment, plus just about everything else on the greasy side.

What is causing the bore scoring? Bad rings, poor cylinder material?

I should have qualified my statement; you cannot replace the IMS w/o completely tearing down the engine. So you could do it once on this one. Not sure what you would do when that wears out in 40k miles, (or whatever the service life is).

This is a sad example of how these engines are completely unsuited for track use.

Speeder is wrong.
Go do a search on Rennlist, there are a number of rebuilders out there that can do a proper rebuild up to and including full track use. I will concede its not cheap.

Sorry - but you're wrong again. European Parts Solutions has a kit that allows replacement without disassembly. It's not cheap to purchase, but can be rented for $400 ($1500 core charge.)

Ok, how about in stock form? Of course they can be improved or fortified at great expense, (what engine does this not apply to?), I was referring to the way they come from the factory. BTW, I do not dislike the cars. I like them a lot. But unlike the earlier and later cars, they are not suited for track duty out of the box. Sorry.

bore scoring can be re-mediated with sleeves.
And prevented with improved cooling

Make sure you have the 70 C thermostat so you get cooler coolant to your engine.

There's lots of speculation as to if the low temp thermostat does what some claim it does. It opens earlier (at the lower temp) - but it doesn't miraculously allow the engine to run cooler.
