Seized 997 engine query
Wow, where did 5 years go? I’ve now got a seized engine in my 2007 997 Carrera S car and looking to see if anyone has a suggestion on what I should do to get this car back on the road? I’m located in the Okanagan, BC, Canada 🇨🇦 Cheers 🍻

You think you can just waltz on back in here and start posting questions without explaining your whereabouts for the last several years? ? Sorry, you'll have to wait five years for an answer..
Ha!.. Just kidding on ya! But dang, where ya been? Someone was just asking about you not long ago.. And to answer your question, probably best to check salvage yards or buy a totaled car for the parts.

1. Rebuild current engine
2. Purchase a used engine and swap 3. Purchased wrecked car and swap engine 4. Bite the bullet and part out car or sell as a roller That's pretty much your options as I see it . Good luck with whatever path you choose .

Hi Rob,
Hope all is good with you. My suggestion is contact Jeff at Turn 3 in Vancouver. https://turn3autosport.com/ He may be able to point you in the right direction. Curious how the engine seized? I have been mulling over getting a C4 or C4S from that time frame.

I would guess bore scoring is a contributor , seems like more and more of these engines are having bore scoring issues .

Rebuild, factory shortblock or go full nut with LN goodies.
LS, check local regulations carefully before you start. Sell as is. Just starting the tear down on a 2006, scored bores. Full pop rebuild, won't be cheap.

I have a 996 and 997 here for new engines with badly scored bores, they did run when delivered.

Thanks & Cheers!
I’m not sure just what happened but local mechanic in Osoyoos checked it over & said she’s seized. No one has time to dig into it but a buddy in the biz said to just buy a rebuild for this year (2007). I’d been tracking the car at Area 27 in Oliver, the engine went on the track & I likely drove it too hard; maybe? I’ll likely have Frank Winterlik at 911 Werks in Lake Country do the work for $25K CDN. He’s just too busy until August. JF Customs in Osoyoos is trying to find me a motor too but no luck & also too busy. My buddy is an owner at Area 27 and I enjoyed taking the driver training & advanced training there along with several lap days. Got my times down from 2:45 to 2:29 and was doing well on day 2 of some serious driving. But that all ended when I blew the engine. A first world problem to say the least. I’m still in the Real Estate bizzyness but working more low key, no computer or office at home for 5 years now and taking winters off unplugged. Had to be done. Life is good here in the Shuswap, give me a shout if you’re in the hood.... i’ll Keep you posted, but likely a winter project now. Cheers Last edited by 911Rob; 06-24-2019 at 07:37 AM.. Yes that’s what Frank will do.... best option but he says the engine isn’t likely a good candidate for a rebuild.

You could even drain the oil, and drop the sump ( super easy ) and see if you have abstract art in there . Then you would know for sure if you are rebuilding or not
Seems as if used motors have come down in price a tad over the last few years. Under 10 k Good luck, make sure to post pics of the carnage

No guarantees that the new/used junkyard motor will have same issue.
It happened to me. Do a full rebuild and never look back. |

Having gone down a similar path on my 996 you're faced with two options;
1) Find a replacement engine. This will likely cost ~$10k. The downside is you have an engine with no history, and no way of knowing if something will fail on that. 2) Rebuild the engine. IF it's rebuildable this is likely to cost at least $12k. The positive is you're able rebuild it with some of the reworked internals from someone like LN Engineering to improve reliability. You'll end up with a known quantity that's better than the original. That will allow for further track use, or just better piece of mind on the road. First step would be to pull the engine, get a borescope in there, and find out what's wrong and whether it can be rebuilt. The engines coming out anyway regardless of what you plan to do, so get it out and check.
