I suspect the auto start/stop at least on a Porsche is designed to quit working after awhile. I say that because I left it turned on after my Cayman was broken in (I left it turned off during the break in period and also changed the oil FWIW). After awhile it's function became more and more sporadic so I finally just left it turned off.

One nice thing on the Cayman though is if you stall the engine due to faulty feet action, you push in the clutch and it starts right up without touching the key.

I bought my Cayenne when it was 4 years old and the start/stop never worked so I've always left it turned off.

Nope.

For $22 in parts a thief can build these.

The way it works is the bad guys walk up to a car and if the key is in the house in the kitchen, close to the garage it still communicates to the car. They can sniff out the signal, and use that key signal to open the doors, start it up, and drive away.

It works on Mercedes, and other high end cars.

I saw that on the news the other day and immediately put the keys to a car in the driveway into a deep dark recess of the house. The Porsches sleep in the garage so I'm not worried about them.

We had a Pacifica for a loaner with the start/stop. It was mostly not very noticeable and by the time your foot was from the brake to the gas it was running, ready to go. Every so often there was some judder.

To those who keep saying "turn it off", well the newer cars have no way to turn it off. I'm in new rentals for work all the time and no switch/button anywhere to disable it. HATE it..

Disabled that **** on my former 2018 alfa by unplugging one of the two latch sensors underhood. Did not get a 'hood open' but got a start stop disabled msg.

Garbage and one of many reasons I will not buy another modern car again. They nag too much, too many nannies and aides.

Not true, my brothers BMW X1 had it On his first service he asked the dealer if it could be disabled, they had to do it using whatever the BMW specific OBD interface is.. The dealer turned it off... no button or switches .

I'm sure other brands differ.

Absolutely not. My point being to not be fooled by the manufacturers with the warm fuzzy they’re trying sell us.
