Blah Blah Blah....heard all that sh$t before. How many mass shootings in Australia last week?? Everybody says they're going to do something and nobody fcuking does. "Yeh...FCUK YEH I'll shoot him" when???? after he's already killed a bunch of people or after he's already been shot by the cops??
I think it was Rick or Jeff that said a long time ago the dead are 'collateral damage' to our second amendment rights.

At least 4 killed and "multiple crime scenes" after shooting in Australia

June 4, 2019 / 3:21 PM / CBS/AP

Quote:
Melbourne, Australia -- A man who was out on parole was arrested after fatally shooting four men and wounding a woman in an hour-long downtown rampage Tuesday in the northern Australian city of Darwin, police said. Police did not reveal a motive for the shotgun attack, but ruled out terrorism.

Those are things I do every second I'm outside my house, and I just naturally hate crowds anyway.
I grew up on Long Island NY, and went to the city a lot in the 80's. It was a very dangerous place, that taught me to always be aware of your surroundings.

I was just in a downtown setting Saturday night, I was watching live music, I took my phone out snapped 2 pictures and put it away, never looked at it again all night.

I also try to get a feel for where I am at, there are times when I feel like I can relax, Saturday night was one, I was not on guard like I would be in NYC in the 80's. I was relaxed, buzzed and enjoying myself.

We were in Chelsea NY last spring, a couple of streets I walked down even in Chelsea made me uneasy, I kept my eyes out and was paying attention to everyone. I was not relaxed and was not buzzed then. I was on my toes. I changed some of the routes were were taking to get into what I perceived was a safer route.

I'm probably more like Rick in that I've never enjoyed being in crowded places. Not because I'm afraid of what someone might do, but rather it's just too noisy and I don't enjoy it.
I like live music, I hate crushing crowds, what I was in Saturday night was a perfect balance, decent crowd, not overwhelming, there were portable bars setup around the venue, no lines.

The restaurants and bars around the venue were at maybe 50% capacity, we could walk into any bar and half the seats were empty. You could walk up calmly and sit down. If there were lines everywhere and people 3 deep around the bars, I would have left.

I had to drive 135 Miles each way this weekend, all on back 2 lane roads, I was more anxious about that than being in the city I was in or the crowds I was in.

I don't think any of us are running around in total fear about being gunned down, or avoiding public places because of this , but I do think about it everywhere I go no .
Nothing new to me really, I've been working in sketchy city neighborhoods for 20 years now. I am used to looking over my shoulder and always having a plan .
Just that , I am much more aware of my surroundings when out in a public place now , than I was before .
I keep my eyes on people and watch what is going on around me . I like to know where the exits are, and good hiding places within the stores /
I agree, much more likely to be injured in a car accident than involved in a shooting, but the frequency does seem to be increasing .
.
I really enjoy my time away from people, so I have always tried to get my shopping done later in the evening, or early in the am, before all the cluck heads are out .

It's fcukin' horrible. These people can't just be 'collateral damage' because of a right. Somethings gotta give man...for fcuks sake. It just makes me angry.....

I watch everything and everyone everywhere I go. Since 9/11 and living in nyc and becoming paranoid that every cab driver had a dirty bomb in the trunk I’ve been totally on guard. I still go out to most places though but I’m well aware of what a crap place this has become. My goal is to get as far away from civilization as possible. Nearest neighbor miles and miles away.

It must be very hard to be a parent these days. I grew up after the Adam Walsh murder and being abducted was or seemed like the primary parental worry back then. So much to worry about today

I work in pretty rough neighborhoods every day. The worst I've encountered are the pit bulls. It's like every poor person, who can barely afford cigarettes, has a pit bull or two. But I never fear the criminal element. I fear the crazy element. Bad guys can be deterred and I don't look like an easy victim. The crazy ones cannot be deterred, only stopped once they act.

Everyone of us will face a situation that is insurmountable.

Shooters, planes, apex predators... as Sooner or later sez; Least of my worries.
LOL @ "the MILFy kind."

Agreed. Spend your life worrying about something that may or may not happen? For what? Carry a concealed weapon and be proficient with it. Then live your life.

Criminals will still find weapons and use them if you take guns away. The only thing you're doing by taking lawful gun ownership away is making law-abiding citizens defenseless.

I for one don’t worry but I am aware, hyper aware of where I am and the possibilities. Reminds me of my motorcycle riding days, always looking for escape routes just Incase, what if....

Friend of mine was in shooting last year at a mall in California...made the active shooter news

Cousins of mine was down the street from the los Vegas shooting.

I took a dump in Borders Books in the World Trade Center many a morning. Lucky for me that day, I was elsewhere. An office within which I nearly accepted employment the week prior was across the street and destroyed

Definitely don’t live in dread and fear but don’t think it can’t happen to you because it can

there ain’t a damn thing you can do about it. Nothing. Maybe having metal detectors at every event. Even then, a sicko with an AK47 won’t be stopped by a metal detector and a few mall cops

The problem is so much bigger and more complicated than being a gun issue

I checked out of a hotel in Vegas that was less than half a mile from the concert that morning.

Eh, perception vs reality.

What has been on an upswing is suicide.

Murder, rape, violent crime, its been going down for almost three decades.

Yet we fear the violent crime, and suicide silently picks of person after person.

And speaking of scary military jets... I have to ask the perpetually petrified pelicans here; How can we trust men and women to fly fully armed jets? Don't people know how much damage one of those can do? Hell, look how much damage was done with passenger jets on 9/11. How can we allow such deadly weapons to exist in the hands of mere mortals?

Just about exactly a year ago a Seatac cargo worker stole a turbo prop plane and took it for a joy ride. ..well, until he decided he should kill himself. Anyway, the way some of you fearful are arguing, we should get rid of all instruments of potential death. --of course none of that will save you, just as attempts to get rid of guns won't save you.

And drug overdoses. We know 3 who died. I worked with a kid who claimed to know 28 kids who overdosed. My sister had someone overdoes and die in her driveway.

IDK things seem to me to be a real mess these days if your not careful

Was in NYC last week. First time in a while since I move out in 2004. Greewiz what a mess. A dude of about 25 nearly pissed on my wife and me walking down 2nd Avenue. The general state of things there looked bleak. And everyone just walking along looking at their phone lost in their online world

This thread makes me glad I live somewhere where the absolute last thought in my mind is I may get shot. Insane that anybody going about their normal, outside of a warzone, day has a necessity to eyeball potential threats and exit routes for when the bullets fly, that is a pathetic way to live.
