A close call for one of my girls..........

Yesterday evening one of my daughters, with her boyfriend in the passenger seat, was hit head on by a drunk driver. Other than bumps and bruises mostly from the seat belts and air bags they are both ok. Her Cube took a pretty good hit and is undoubtedly a total loss. It was her first car so she's heartbroken for that.
It was a relatively low speed hit ( both parties traveling less than 30mph). She saw it coming and had time to get on the brakes but couldn't get out of path of the oncoming truck. We're extremely grateful to the Palmdale Sheriffs Office who was on the scene mere moments after the impact and quickly had the bad guy in custody and then preceded to calm her down and made sure she was well taken care of. It could have been so much worse so I'm feeling lucky. My heart goes out to other parents who were not as fortunate.

Wow! Glad she is ok. She’ll probably be sore for quite a while.

She has a sore hip directly under the bruise left by her seat belt and her bf must have had his arm outstretched as his thumb was severely overextended but not broken or fully dislocated. Both have minor facial burns from the airbags. They were both released from the hospital after xrays and Dr's examination.

Wow, glad they are ok Kevin, that could have been bad. Hope the other driver pays a stiff price for that.

She is so lucky. A drunk in a 4x4 should get a heavier sentence than a drunk in a Geo Metro. The potential for loss of life is so much greater.

Glad your daughter we OK. Here in Colorado Springs 20 years ago it was 1/4 accidents involved impairment. I bet it’s 1/2 now. Other driver will be back on the road soon.

With the difference in bumper height and vehicle weight, that Cube did great in saving its occupants.

Glad to hear they had no serious injuries. And are on the mend.

Cheers Richard

Glad she and her boyfriend are ok. Very lucky.

Question about the photo. It looks like the pickup is on the correct side of the road and the Cube is not. Thoughts?

On second thought, perhaps that’s a center line just behind both cars?

Man that bumper height is scary. Glad the kid is OK.

If your daughter is under 21, I highly suggest this driving school. My older son has taken it and I was super impressed. My younger son is about a year from taking it.

The center line of the roadway (a double yellow) is on the right hand side of the truck. This is a four lane roadway. She had just turned left onto the street and was in the lane closest the center. The truck was getting ready to make a left hand turn exiting the thoroughfare but started his turn about a hundred feet too early.

Whew...glad it wasn't worse, Kevin! I would have guessed 'texting' before I saw your explanation - but wonder if that still wasn't the case (?)

The car sacrificed itself and she walked away. Very fortunate indeed.

One of my daughters was driving over Hwy 74 in heavy rain when a 5' boulder rolled down the hill and directly into her car. Again the airbags popped and the car sacrificed itself. She walked away while 3 mos pregnant.
