Looking better but still a threat, taking no chances. Just another beautiful day here, too bad our golf course is closed for storm prep. We went out for breakfast this morning and noticed no lines at the gas stations and no bags on the handles. Decided to stop in at our neighborhood Publix to take a peek and buy more **** we don't need and damn, they had water, bread, etc. It looked like a normal day there. Bought some emergency Krispy Kreme donuts. Please stay off the coast.

Does all this mean my home owners insurance premiums will increase again next year?

No claims in 40+ years in Pennsylvania.

We are in the market for winter property on the gulf side of Florida

Should I store all propane tanks outside in an enclosed lanai or would the garage be ok?

WYDBODY1986 08-31-2019 12:49 PM

I’ve been through several of these and consider myself considerably lucky up to this point. We had reservations at a hotel on the west coast near Marco island just in case luckily we will not need them. I will never go through a cat 4 again. I will secure my property the best I can and head out before I will stay.
Now some levity, hurricane prep in Hialeah belowhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567284467.jpg

These are worth big $$ in Florida these last few days.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...603e64fedf.jpg

I am on the hill behind my house. It is about 10' tall is east of my house and funnels the wind over my house. In Wilma which pulled away as a 3, I sat on the back porch and watched the wind and rain go over my house.

I am really shielded in this spot.

I know what those are, thankfully I do not need them. A wire brush and lubricant made it easy.

I am changing a few more things around this house IF we are staying. One is some bahama shutters on the side windows. Then I want some roll down shutters on my front patio. I never want to shutter the front patio again. If I do those couple of things, I can close up my house in 30 minutes. Right now it takes about 2-3 hours.

The TABS track is the wackiest. :D

So current forecast is that Dorian most likely curves up along the coast and never makes landfall? That's good, right?

Yes, we want nothing to do with the eye wall and the NE quadrant of the storm.

The further from the eye wall the better.

I am still expecting cat1 to cat 2 conditions which is 75 winds with gusts to 110mph. We are expecting a really bad day on Tues where I live.

Most like will loose power for 4 to 6 days and being this will be an entire east coast event from about Jupiter north to the Carolinas resources will be spread thin.

I will take that over a direct hit with 150 mph sustained winds for 24+ hours and 180 mph gusts.

The poor northern Bahamas will be devastated. The Abacos are beautiful islands with fantastic friendly locals. They are in my thoughts today, sad to think how much destruction they will experience. I hope the loss of life is minimal.

Still really anxious here, we need to see the turn.

I will say the forecast model change lifted spirits in town. Everywhere I go folks are in a much better and more relaxed mood.

Cat 1 or 2 we are annoyed and get ready. Cat 3 we are concerned and do the same.

Cat 4 or 5 we freak out and prepare to lose everything. I will never hunker down for a Cat 4 or 5 I GTFOand try to get as far south of the storm as I can, I never go north of it.

I keep mine in the garage. How enclosed is the lanai? Does it have shutters over it? If so it will be fine as well.

Kind of funny we are happy to get cat 1 or cat 2 conditions vs what will be about 70 mile off shore. We are gonna need that beer still.

I am gonna make a run today for some, I only have high octane, I need to cheap low abv crap to drink when I am done outside that will not knock me on my dehydrated ass.

Speaking of dehydration, heat index yesterday was 116, I probably drank a gallon of water yesterday working outside all day. Sweated that much back out.

In about a half an hour I am heading out to start tidying up the back yard and bracing my fence.

We have a few ahole neighbors who decided to do yardwork and put the yard waste to the road. There is no scheduled pickup. So this crapnis going to end up in everyone's yards.

This is the house next door to me. There is another genius 2 houses away in the other direction with a larger pile.

Lanai does not have shutters. I will put them in the garage. Thanks.

I did not know where Jensen Beach is located - you run out of "south" pretty quickly!

Beautiful area...The Weather Channel is broadcasting out of Stuart, Florida.

Best wishes to you and the rest of the folks in the cone.

I live in the Stuart area I am just north of stuart across a river. Yes, it is a very beautiful area but it is starting to get too crowded. It used to be a sleepy little area in the summer snowbirds will double the population in the winter. Now subdivisions are popping up all over the place and tons of people are moving in full time. Now in the winter the traffic is horrible and the snowbirds fill the roads with the worst drivers imaginable.

In 2004 when Francis was coming at us, my younger son was 1. We decided to get away. At 10 pm the night before the storm I left and went to Key West, the weather was perfect and our son got his first haircut there, we got a certificate. It grandfathers him in so he can call himself a conch now. :D . I suspect you know this already, a KW native is called a conch.

My plan for this storm, I wanted to go to KW, wife wanted to only go as far south as necessary. We compromised with Brickell Village in Miami. Now we are staying put.

You are correct we can run out of south. If this storm had hit Palm Beach, like Nota predicted, then I was going to head towards Melbourne, which is 70 miles north of me and gets me 120ish miles from Palm Beach.

Downtown Stuart waterfront. They have a deck on the water, ever Sunday afternoon there is a free concert under those sails. Usually some sort of rock or blues band plays.
