My back yard 10 minutes ago.

My heart is broken for the folks in the Northern Bahamas. I have been all through that area from Marsh Harbor to Man-O-War to Scotland Cay and other islands I was too drunk to remember.

Everyone in that region was genuine good people. Salt of the earth to be cliche.

I am saddened to think of all the loss of life and property in that region.

I am not a religious person I just hope and know they are badasses and will bounce back fast.

The high point of the Bahamas is 40 feet or so and the surge is predicted to be 20 feet? I have no words for that.

Been going to northern Abaco for the past 40+ years and have a small family house in Treasure Cay. My thoughts are for the safety of all the people we know there, especially the Haitian community there that live in poor conditions already. They have no protection and I can't imagine what they are going through, I hope they make it somehow. What's left of the property can be rebuilt.

Gotta be terrifying to know you have no escape.

There is a Pelican here who used to Manage the Green Turtle Cay resort near Abaco. I think he lives in Georgia now, his user name is escaping me right now.

I am so heartbroken for the kind people of the Abacos. If anyone is looking here put the Abacos on your bucket list for next summer. Yes, they will bounce right back they are resilient like that. Go to the outer islands and see the pink sand beaches.

Go to Nippers on Great Guana Cay and drink and enjoy the debauchery.

So many cool places. We stayed on Scotland Cay and I remember visiting Man-O-War while still sober (since IIRC it is a dry Island) and the people in the shops were super cool.

The entire region is remarkable in beauty and in hospitality. Thinking of going to the south Pacific? Skip it and come support the good people of the Abacos and northern Bahamas. Trust me by spring next year they will be back. That is how they roll.

Hey Jim...did you just put those braces in for your fence? I have some I will be using on mine in the morning. Just didn't get around to it today - plus it will be on the west side so I can work in the shade in the morning.

As a surveyor, you will find this funny (maybe). The lot behind me just got cleared after being vacant the entire time I've lived here (23 years). The new owner wants to take the grade down and put in a block retainer wall right where my fence is. I put this fence in 13 years ago and it's been ravaged pretty good from Matthew and Irma. He (and the builder) said it was on their property by just a few inches. So I said they could have free reign to rip her down whenever they wanted. They are going to put in some kind of new fence in conjunction with the retaining wall. You probably see stuff like this all the time. So far the new owners seem very nice and I've known the builder for quite a few years so I don't anticipate any issues.

The good news is the new house will only be 2 stories so I will still have the high ground, even though I'm only 1 story. You can't see it in these pics because it's behind the Bamboo. ;)

If they are willing to put up a decent fence then let them tear down the old one. I love the bamboo line, reminds me of my Areca Palm Line along my fence line which is not needed now that the Arica's are mature.

I have a nice mature one in front as well as a Cabada Palm - different species of Areca.

I got my money's worth out of that fence so I'd be dumb to try and save it when they are willing to fund a new one. It's a win-win - my favourite formula. :)

BTW...that super tall bamboo belongs to my neighbors. We got bamboo coming out the ying yang....:p

I think I slept 4 hours last night.

As of 5am forward motion is 1 mph and the storm has weakened.

I hope this means the turn may happen sooner.

I still need to sort my office this morning. Also, the 1 year old Odyssey gel cel battery in my genny was at 10 volts. I had it on a trick charger all night.

Stressing over these last items I need to take care of and fear the weather is going to go south fast today.

Everything closed at 6 last night. Not sure anything will be open today, for at least the next 48 hours we are on our own.

I took a good dose of CBD oil this morning before I had my coffee the CBD kicked in and I feel very chill now.

Eating breakfast now then we might try to head over and check out the beach. Should I go visit Jim Cantore? I know exactly which beach he is on.
