I have to go to the county courthouse title department to transfer title. Sounds like you guys have it a lot easier!!

Racerbvd 09-04-2019 09:45 AM

I was driving a 2019 Silverado 4x4 while the back bumper of Pepper was being repainted.
I must admit, that was a nice ride.
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567614975.jpg
But I have a couple of enclosed trailers that I drag to swapmeets and the trackhttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567615183.jpg
My 1999 Suburban 2500 4x4 pulls with no problem, but those familiar with that era Chevrolet trucks know what happens to their paint
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1567615362.jpg
But repainting is still cheaper than payments of what I would need to replace her with new.

For 2500 series truck money, I can have a pretty darn nice p car , or 3 daily drivers .

The LC is my DD.

The only vehicles I buy new are trucks...

One of the benefits of semi-retirement for me is I won't be putting the mileage on my '02 Silverado like I used to when hamster wheel was at capacity.

I'm at about 225K right now and would like to keep it under 300K for at least the next 10 years.

fastfredracing 09-04-2019 10:15 AM

Im right at 225 k also Baz. We all know these trucks will go long if taken care of. Even though I worked the snot out of this one, I always kept up on maintenance , so I am sure it has another 50k in it.
I am seriously considering repairing the rocker panels ( the right way, I have pennsultucky rockers now, which is foam covered with tiger hair ) , and painting it .
I honestly think trucks from our era were the best looking of the bunch, and had just enough creature comforts to make for good daily drivers, and long haulers .
Id love to not have a $750 a month payment for a box to haul tools, drywall, and refrigerators around .

You should, I chose to have my 2500 repainted, not because it will increase the value, but so damage didn't get any worse, plus, with only 180K on the clock, I still have a long life in her. So fix the damage and drive what is already paid for.

Wow, Byron, bare metal repaint on the old Suburban. I guess there wasn’t much to remove on the upper surfaces. ;)

What kind of paint and primer was used and what was the cost, if you want to share?

That was probably worth 2% - Tundras fly off his lot.

So, SR 5 and TRD were the only options, which had all the mechanical, tow stuff included. I did order front leather seats separately for $1400 installed since seat heat is a first world indulgence of mine.

To get leather seats otherwise would have meant upgrading to a very expensive "package" of stuff I don't need - Nav, premium sounds, better trim, etc.

Just a tad over $29k. Still a lot of money but I keep these things for at least 10 years. It does have a lot of miles on it, mostly highway: I am still, after 110k, on the initial set of brake pads.

Looking on the Toyota truck configuration thing online your truck would sticker right at $40k now

You wouldn't get a truck which paints your toenails while rubbing your back, but you would get a very good truck.

Agree with you Jim, but a maybe 7 MPG??????

Urethane, should be picking her up in the next few days.

Looks great Byron. Unfortunately, rust repair is the hard part of fixing mine .

My cousin went through the same headache when someone plowed into his daily driver and was left with only his 62 Corvette (restromod) that he has owned since as long as I can remember ( but only a few years ago had it restored) and an old 55 Chevrolet truck. Well, being old, things would go wrong with the truck, and his wife was insisting that he but a new truck. He looked around, but didn't see anything that he like, and he is pretty well off, so wasn't like he couldn't afford it .
Well, after a while, he went to the shop that did his Vette and for around the same price as a new truck, he could have the 55 :Restro-modded into a modern into exactly what he wanted with modern conveniences
He did that and hasn't looked back since.. if your rust isn't too bad and you have the skills, safe that $700-$800 a month and put it into something else (like your dream property you posted about, any updates on that?).

I see trucks for a fraction of the price.
Absolutely no reason to ever spend more than $7k for a truck

Anyone else noticing this trend of the used stuff seeming crazy high priced? Or is it just a PHX thing and I need to search farther out?

Recently paid under $18k for a 2013 F150 XLT V8 (not 4x4, though) at Carmax. Had it brought down from Phoenix...

4x4 is a pretty big delta, if you don’t need it 2wd is a big savings.

The quality of the sanding equipment is so good these days that a pretty straight paint job can be turned out in far less time. 4 hours would have that puppy down to bare metal and the poly primer builds high and can be sanded within the hour w/o all that much hand blocking.

I'm talking about very decent driver paint work. The whole painting thing has passed me by.

If I was wanting a new truck I'd look hard at this place.

I think you guys make his point by posting those trucks. None of those are clean. Modified and very worn.

For some people... They think Arizona trucks are worth a premium as they have not seen salt. Compelling argument.

Go to the major equipment auction sites. You'll get some deals on fleet maintained trucks as well. To be honest though, you might get lucky buying one in northern AZ where an old guy will sell a clean truck not knowing the exploding value. Often times you'll see those trucks relisted on the ole Craigslist for double the price with the old ad still up. You're gonna have to buy out of state.

Bought this 04 F-550 6.0 82K miles for $1005.00 (sealed bid-ex town truck). Had a bad 6 speed trans., rust, and didn't run very good. Sent the trans. out for a rebuild and bought a new turbo for it.
A new fender, bumper, and welded in a lot of new sheet metal.
Runs great now.
