You know, I'd say that instead of their not being singers like that; you just don't spend time looking anymore.

Uh oh, I thought it was Elizabeth Taylor's zombie.
![]() But serial, I knew it was guy from the cure. I saw him on the R&R hall of fame and he looked really bad, but still sang great. But as long as we're talking about great singers, let's not forget one of the greatest of all time ... Mario Cuomo's dad: Perry! |

Could have done without the echo though.

I remember the Young Rascals doing that song in the 60s and you’re right, I don’t remember BENATAR doing it.

They don't make guitarists, musicians, like this anymore.

It sounds overdone until you put the instruments to it and the echo gives that haunting sound that creates a mood which matches the song.

Exactly - there is no shortage of modern singers that absolutely rip up one side and down the other. And the same applies to all the, "they don't make guitarists, drummers, bands, etc., like this anymore" comments so often seen - those people are handcuffed to the past and must not listen to anything current.

Since you don't know who she is, I'll give you Sia. She's a modern day Grace Slick. But I'm really curious to see what you come up with as a modern day version of Eddie Van Halen.

Shaun, I pollute the Music/Vid thread all the time with what I consider to be modern awesomeness (none of which are pop stars, such as you mentioned above) - screamers, wailers, growlers and shredders for the most part. I won't post any here, since Java has a serious humor deficiency, and would surely take great offence. ![]() Dad911, Tina S is a beast on the guitar -her covers are really something else! dad...
Sigh. Yes, there are plenty of talented people out there. But Eddie Van Halen is much more than that. It's easy to sing, to play, with enough practice and some double helix gifts, but Grace, Eddie, etc., are packages. Complex packages. the girl is good, no doubt, but no emotion or passion. She just plays well. yawn. And worse, it's a cover. Let's hear her play something she wrote. Let's see your favorite Jonas Brothers song. There are tons. ![]()

Just havin fun Shaun. I agree, lots of talent out there, some I didn't recognize until they passed, like Prince (below - FF to 3:45
![]() Nothing wrong with a good cover. Pink does a mean Me and Bobby McGee. Animals House of the rising sun was a cover...... so is this, I can appreciate both.
