I didn't watch it, but who is the source of the video?
If its not the FIA, then I would assert its only speculation. |
Please one of you F1 inside guys or someone that follows it closely, post what the FIA has to say after the full investigation. With the remains of the car, and all the sensor readouts and full access to all the video they will not be speculating. It will be much like an airplane crash.
|
The full report will *likely* remain confidential at the level of technical directors and FIA safety committee. We can expect something like this to be made available publicly, following the F2 accident last year: https://www.fia.com/news/fia-concludes-investigation-formula-2-accident-spa-francorchamps
The usual no-BS race report, including what went wrong with the pitstop: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WG7TP1lARDM" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture" allowfullscreen></iframe> |
^Brilliant video.
I love the explanation of the sensor issues and the resolution. Russell having to deal with that in the way he did makes his performance even more impressive. The double-stack radio issue was also fascinating. Talk about an improbably issue, sheesh. Kudos to Allison for standing behind his guys in how they worked through the stops. |
I have no doubt that Mercedes has already designed and implemented a solution for the radio issue.
|
Hammy is driving this weekend. News just announced.
Normal service resumed. No more Mercedes F-ups in the pits. And certainly no more fun or a reason to watch. I'll set the DVR again and get to it if the mode strikes. |
Question (that I honestly don't know the answer to): Why did James Allison leave Ferrari? I know the public statements, but I also know they were total bunk.

If you have not seen it, Sainz and norris looks back on the past 2 years as muppets... They're really good buddies, it's nice to see especially considering the toxic culture of McLaren's past. They're cool now...

Hammy back frees up my Sunday morning, no need to watch.

He's saying what everyone is thinking. Everyone but the hardcore Hamilton fans that is |
I’m getting tired of the “it must be a conspiracy” attitude. The simplest answer is usually the best. In this case quick call, overlapped communication leads to a screw up.
Oh wait, I know. HAM called from his hotel and told Toto to throw a monkey wrench into Russel’s. Yeah, that’s the ticket. |

Anyone else see Hamilton's outfit when he showed up at Yas Marina?
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607701623.jpg I think I know who's closet he has been raiding http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607701684.jpg |
This may be the most fun driver lineup on the grid. They are arguing over the pronunciation of Mariah Carey. Carlos says in Spanish it is Maria Caree

Came across this analysis of the Grosjean shunt. The images are stunning. Seb and Danny Ric should look away.

I think that I know what Hamilton was really doing last week...

This is my theory of why the chassis broke the way it did ie tearing the LH rear corner out of the chassis and exposing the fuel cell. Engine and chassis were subjected to a massive lateral bending load from the impact of hitting the barrier at an angle, did read it was around 50g which is a huge load RH engine studs to the chassis failed in tension first which then subjected the chassis to a large compressive load on the LH side. Yellow circle below are the engine RH upper and mid engine mtgs. Looks a clean break of the mtgs studs compared to the LH side where the engine is still attached to the rear corner section of the chassis that tore off http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607728208.jpg As a composite structures weaker side is always the compressive side its natural this side of the chassis would fail first which is shown by the diagonally failure across the fuel area of the chassis ie the carbon skinned aluminium honeycomb sandwich panel area of chassis between the drivers seat back bulkhead and rear engine bulkhead Red dotted line is roughly where the failure is, blue circle is the fuel cell hole http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607727516.jpg This failure area would also have been helped from the fuel cell round opening and from the stiffness change or stress concentration created by the end of the below thick bonded on zylon panel. The FIA introduced this extra protection to improve safety in regards to cockpit penetration from nose and rear impact structure impacts http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1607724974.jpg Can see the FIA introducing a change to the side zylon panel regs so it ends at the engine bulkhead instead of just behind the seat back bulkhead. As well as reducing the diameter of the fuel cell hole or moving it to a less exposed place like the seat back cockpit ???? Both changes would be impossible to implement for 2021 Any questions please ask away and I'll make up some more stuff for your reading entertainment ;) |
Thats a fascinating and plausible theory, Captain. Interesting to learn about Zylon too.
What kind of layup patterns are used for the Zylon and for the carbon monocoque? How many plies of carbon fiber (?) are typically on the side of the cockpit? Thanks for providing your insight. |
Thanks Captain.
Now next question. What did The new Russian driver Mazapan or whatever do in Instagram that was so horrible? I don’t have a Instagram account. The F1 announcers danced around it during P1. |
Mazepin posted a video of him groping a female passenger's breast. She flipped him off. More dollars than sense.

Ah, so a Billionaire’s young son out partying. How shocking. |
I found the video of Mazepin after the Sky Sports guys were making such a big deal about it today. Seems like friends out having fun and no big deal. The girl was obviously not concerned with showing a little skin and Mazepin kind of appeared to be covering her breasts from the camera while jokingly copping a feel. Of course I’m a dirty old man so what do I know.
|
I saw the video too. He's stupid to post it but other than that no real harm was done.

^^^ When your dad's a Russian billionaire, what's the big deal?
|
Looks like Mclaren are selling a 560 million dollar share of the company to an American consortium . Supposed to be announced tomorrow before the race .
|
Did anyone else see Alonso driving the v10 2005 championship car yesterday? Competitive times and that amazing sound. Wow.

As ugly as the Halo is it saved Grosjean's life
|
Yep, the halo debate is over. I would hope the other open wheel race series mandate it soon. Much like the fire proof race suit, seatbelt, helmet, and HANS device are required in all racing. Hopefully coming soon to Indy car, and all series of open wheel racing.
