Even the Sky Sports announcers were saying it. Just a processional at the front. F1.5 though was a bit more peppy

Well that was a dull race, but an interesting season.

Next year with all the moves and changes it should be really interesting.

Thank you so much to everyone involved with F1 to bring us a season this year! It must have been a hell of an effort, but the fans really needed it, thank you!

Yeah, they don't seem quite so bored when it's LH pulling away from the field.

Captain Ahab Jr 12-13-2020 02:54 PM

What a strange but at times exciting season and today's race ends my 20th year in F1

No championship wins this year :( but my consolation price is I'm now only one championship win away from having every championship position for both constructors 1st to last and drivers from 1st to last

As it should be, best team and driver won, Mercedes and Hamilton were almost unbeatable so rightfully took both top steps, well deserved Won! :)

s_morrison57 12-13-2020 03:43 PM

Congrats on 20 years Captain!
I don't mean to pry, BUT, are you signed up for next year? Are you working on the 2022 car? I really enjoy your post's here, I think we all do, its like as Pelican's, we have our own man "on the inside".

Kudo's to F1 for making it happen too, I enjoyed the season, predictable at times, yes but also surprising as it all played out with the Constructor's Championship, first time winners and what I saw as the middle of the pack all making strides forward and that made it entertaining as a Racing Point fan.
I can't wait till next year!

Exactly. They are all huge Hamilton fans, and I guess I understand he is the home town hero. But it does get tiring.

rfuerst911sc 12-14-2020 01:49 AM

If the internet rumors are accurate Sergio Perez will be announced as a RB driver . Supposedly within the next two weeks . Albon to stay with the team as a test driver .

Emphasis added.

Which I don't understand. He doesn't live in the UK. Has been known to skip a fan event in London. Dodges taxes in England. Gets kicked out of Wimbledon because he wouldn't comply with the dress requirements for the Royal Box on Centre Court.

Then there is the vegan and climate change stuff. He tells everyone what to do in both those areas. Which is a bit bizarre in with regard to oil consumption/burn since he drives a race car that serves no point from a climate change perspective.

There is a push on the interwebs for him to be Knighted. But the detractors say that it won't happen due to the tax stuff (I'd add that the Wimbledon thing didn't help and that Buckingham Palace are concerned that he won't act properly in the future).

I think that given half a chance, Crofty would marry LH

If Russell gets a good ride and starts winning consistently, there may be a change in "home town hero".

Let's hope so. It's a crying shame that Hulkenberg is out of F1. (Who, BTW, finished ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the driver's standings after only doing TWO races and lists his team as "Force India".)

Future predictions:

1) Verstappen wins a WDC the season after Hamilton retires.

2) Mick Schumacher turns out to be another Bruno Senna or Michael Andretti or a hundred other relatives of former F1 champions that didn't pan out.

3) Red Bull have a Renault engine again next season.

And for the real crazy prediction:

4) Hamilton wins the WDC if he doesn't retire.

GH85Carrera 12-14-2020 07:37 AM

Hamilton wants all the records, so he will not retire unless Mercedes decided they don't need a 100 million dollar (or more) driver. Offer him the same salary as George Russel. Take it or leave it, how much do you want to win? Mercedes is the clear choice if he wants to win.

I really did not care for Verstappen when he first started. Now I have to admit I think he is the best driver of them all. He has matured, and gotten a lot better.

Hamilton will be back for one more year, and retire at the end of 2021.

rfuerst911sc 12-14-2020 08:47 AM

Russell being a Mercedes driver makes him a natural successor for whichever current Mercedes driver leaves the team . Bottas only has a contract for next year and who knows how long of a contract is being negotiated with Hamilton . First one out Russell gets his shot .

I am not expecting greatness right away with Mick Schumacher . But I think he has what it takes to perform in F1 . The next year with Haas will be a learning adventure with a car that is behind the curve . As long as he can get consistent laps and the car slowly improves that will be a milestone . In my mind he has to prove over the next 2-3 years he has what it takes to be promoted to Ferrari .

I think Perez or Hulkenberg would be a great addition to Red Bull , either can perform at a high level and be consistent . If RB is going to win a constructors championship they need consistent points from both cars . And that has to start with the first race not halfway through the season .

To me Alphau Tauri was a surprise team this year . They showed good pace and much more consistent finishes which speaks well for them in the future .

yellowperil 12-14-2020 11:26 AM

As for me, Nikita "from Russia with love" Mazepin has already worn out his welcome.
I think F1 does not need him, just because daddy is loaded doesn't mean he's the right guy for a seat in F1.

yellowperil 12-14-2020 11:36 AM

Another thought, I never was a fan of Alonso, but his laps in his old Renault was
really something, The sound and the speed was a joy to behold.

matthewb0051 12-14-2020 12:10 PM

Yep. This was the sound I fell in love with at Hockenheim in 2002. It just screams

I saw this a couple of days ago. Hoping Sir Frank gets well!

My favourite team. But that may change with new ownership.

It will be nice to really see just how good Perez is. If he can beat Max on the occasional qualifying, I will be really impressed. At least he should be able to be up close to the top more than Albon ever was.

likely but not official until the friday confirmation

and I donot expect perez to beat max on saturday unless max blows a Q3 lap
but expect far close Q times from perez then the 0.5 we have been seeing

but sunday race tyre life extension may get perez a place or two advantage
on occasion if max uses up his tyres

Deschodt 12-17-2020 08:34 AM

J. Capito got the job at Williams to replace Claire. Competent guy, did well in WRC for VW. Looking for Albon / Perez everywhere but not finding anything official either.

rfuerst911sc 12-17-2020 09:52 AM

If Perez gets the RB seat I don't expect many wins if any . That is not a knock on his ability it is more about the RB chassis . It sounds like that chassis needs to be man handled to go fast and that fits Max's driving style .

If Perez can adapt quickly what I do expect is consistent top finishes like 3rd - 5th . Week in and week out . Assuming Max can continue to fight at the front and RB can improve on speed the duo could test Mercedes for constructors championship . I will add I think Bottas is losing his edge and won't consistently finish second .

However if the RB chassis is not as tough to drive as some think then that gives Perez a leg up as he seems to be a master at tire management . A quicker car than he is used to , some decent strategy and excellent tire management could get him fighting for wins and or higher podium positions . If he only signs a one year deal I don't expect much in the way of team orders .

stealthn 12-17-2020 10:42 AM

Geez no one giving Seb a shout out, I think Aston Martin will be number 2 ahead of RB.

But that’s just me :)

legion 12-17-2020 12:49 PM

I think Seb's best by date is passed. I don't expect him or Alonso to be a factor. I think he will have similar performance to Stroll. We'll see.

Noah930 12-17-2020 02:22 PM

Perez to be announced tomorrow, for the 2nd seat at Red Bull.

matthewb0051 12-17-2020 02:42 PM

Red Bull are being very cagey. This was about 2 hour ago.

Edit: now looking at again, it may be older...

It will be interesting to see if anyone can be as fast as Max. It would be refreshing to see Max beaten in qualifying on occasion.

race position is far more likely if max uses up his tyres
as longer runs is where perez is best at rather then one lap

but I expect perez to get closer then the +0.5 Q times we have been seeing
and farther up the result finish placing for more points but seldom beat max in ether

stealthn 12-18-2020 03:16 PM

Good for Perez, but personally I don’t see it working with Max just based on how they both race. My prediction: they will take both cars out of the race 3 times in 2021 due to racing each other. :D

I don’t see how they could considering Perez will be way behind max both in race and quali ! Do you mean when max laps Perez ? :-)

Humour !!

Agreed. Two uber aggressive drivers, what could go wrong?
