Please, LeClerc did not take Stroll out. Stroll moved into LeClerc.

A typical F1 start incident.

If you are on the outside in the turn it's very unlikely that you can achieve an instant decreasing radius and maintain grip. If the driver on the inside can see more than half of the car on the outside, the corner belongs to the outside car.

Therefore, Stroll did not move differently than any driver would in that part of the corner. On the flip side, if the inside car's driver is greedy and stupid, then he doesn't realize he can't stay on his line without the arc of his turn eclipsing the arc of the first car.

2 cars don't share the same pace well at the same time. There is no argument about this. Leclerc did not drive the corner well or he wouldn't have been being passed on the outside. If Stroll was the greedy one and going in too hot, he sure as hell couldn't have shortened his turn. If Leclerc was so slow that Stroll could have shortened his turn, then he was just plain in the way.

If you're that slow, get out of the way. Or wreck the guy like a Dale Earnhardt.

He does it 'cause he can, I would if I could. I'm French but can't roll. I practise on the French word for "King" roi. Very difficile.

Another race I shortened into 15 minutes worth of snippets.

Gawd, I hope 2021 doesn't end up being as boring as this season. It's Mercedes, who can only beat themselves it seems, and then the rest of them.

Milt, I totally agree with you re: LeClerc. He needs to generally clean up his act.

Got home from Mass and went on social media to find Hammy saying to Sky Sports that in essence they are out to get him. As someone said earlier in this thread... take it like a man.

My give a ****e level is really low at this point. I saw the first 20ish laps, went to church and couldn't be bothered to rewind. I love this sport but it's gotten to be not so much fun anymore.

matthewb0051 09-27-2020 12:14 PM

Oh and I recall Toto saying after the Canada Vettle 5 second mess... Rules are rules. I guess that's only if the incident doesn't involve a Mercedes driver/car

F1 fans should enjoy this, https://www.giorgiopiola.com/collections/formula-1-art-prints

After rewatching LeClerc/Stroll, LeClerc is doing what every other F1 driver does by not accommodating side by side racing within the confines if the track.

Bizarre contrast on radios - paraphrasing :

HAM: the stewards are trying to stop me, wahhh waaah - poor me

RIC: I screwed up, sorry, I’ll go faster

BOT: y’all can %%#% off (on his easiest and not particularly deserved win)

No wonder I prefer Ricciardo.

URY914 09-27-2020 04:18 PM

I found the perfect way to watch it, I read a book with the race on without volume.

petrolhead611 09-28-2020 01:07 AM

Thee was quite a lot of action in the race particularly in the lower ranks. Hamilton had to make a number of passes to get back up to 3rd after his 10 second penalty.
If you want almost constant overtaking attempts throughout a race, watch the BTCC ( British Touring Car Championship) racing, it's really exciting stuff, and the races are only 15 laps so within the compass of American attention spans

I don't think the stewards are out to get Hamilton. I think anyone who practiced two race starts outside of the designated are would have been so penalized. It sounds like he got (really) bad advice from his team.

That said, they certainly were out to get him during the 2007 and 2008 seasons, so it's not like his paranoia is unwarranted. I do think there have been a number of reforms made on the race steward front since then that have significantly reduced both their ability and propensity to act in a political manner. It used to be quite common to see them penalize other teams so that Ferrari could benefit--even if Ferrari were clearly at fault for whatever had happened.

I was surprised he didn't play the R-card.
Maybe saving it for his social media.

Hamilton is a phenomenal driver. He's my absolute favorite driver.

I used to just ignore his off-track antics, but he's started to bring them to the race (which I strongly dislike). There's a reason why there's a lady with a backpack that follows him around, and that's to keep him in a good mental space so that he wins races. Hopefully she sets him straight with regards to the stewards. Otherwise, there's a good chance that he singlehandedly loses the championship.

javadog 09-28-2020 07:25 AM

I'm not clear on why he was penalized. He was "too far" down the pit lane to practice a start. No definition of "too far." No markings that I could see to define any limits.

Seems like a gray area that would have been better handled with a reprimand, or at least the team questioning it.

legion 09-28-2020 07:34 AM

It's my understanding that there was a designated area. I'm not sure how or if it was marked.

stuttgart46 09-28-2020 07:55 AM

It's not marked and it is my understanding that it's up to the track if they want to paint a marked area for such.

But it had been discussed and all the drivers knew where the correct area was.

Just Ham being Ham IMHO.

Well, as it turns out, LeClerc himself said he understeered into Stroll while following Perez through the corner.

Or did he just go in too hot!? 😁

+1

Seems to be his M.O. Composed and "humble" when he's on the top step, but a whiney B when he's not.

I loved the post-race interview when Johnny Herbert basically issued Hammy an "alright, piss off then." in his own round-about way.
