Well, as it turns out, LeClerc himself said he understeered into Stroll while following Perez through the corner.

Where does he say that?

450knotOffice 09-28-2020 05:23 PM

Quoted after the race (italics are mine)

“Then in the middle of the corner Perez (Stroll’s teammate) took the apex. When I was behind him, I understeered quite a bit and then we made contact with Lance.”

Sounds like he lost some front downforce when he tucked in behind Perez and then slid a little wide.

Zeke 09-29-2020 06:10 AM

"...we made contact..." Does he drive with a mouse in his pocket?

Never been all that big of a max fan, he seemed a bit too cocky and brash his first couple of years.
But I'm starting to believe he is the best driver on the grid and if he had a car equal to the mercedes, no one would cone close to him. He certainly is making his team mate look weak.

Flame away, I still have nomex I can put on if it gets too hot.

Hambone walked it back in a very carefully and professionally written reply apologizing for his shortcomings, with just a little poor poor me thrown in.

The stewards were not amused.

Quote:

Hamilton himself had been criticised by Mika Salo, who was among the race stewards at Sochi and described the six-time World Champion as “full of ****” in claiming he was being targeted by those who apply the regulations.

“This is by no means true. Everyone has the same rules,” said the Finn.

FIA race director Michael Masi also insisted there was no bias from he or his team.

“We have the stewards as an independent judiciary to adjudicate. There was an infringement and it doesn’t matter if it was Lewis Hamilton or any other one of the 19 drivers,” said Masi.

“From my perspective, it’s very simple that if Lewis wants to raise something, as I have said to him before, and said to all the drivers numerous times, the door is always open and I’m more than happy to discuss anything.”
IOW, say it to my face Aho;)

No flame, I agree. I Max started out as Crashtappen, and was a real jerk on track. He did grow up as a driver and I think he may be the best driver on track. Hamilton seems to get more immature every race. No one can really say Lewis is not a great driver, but he simply has a car a full second faster than the rest of the pack except his teammate. He has simply outperformed Bottas.

Lewis will have virtually every record of consequence in short order. Unless Max can get a car the equal of the Mercedes or the Red Bull in Vettle's heyday, or Ferrari in Micheal Shumacher's day he has no chance.

I other words... Hammy has complained or inferred a complaint to Masi before but was being passive aggressive about it. Masi is basically telling him to man up and make a formal complaint or piss off.

The Sky Sports video interview I saw had a strong inference of racial undertones. Again, passive aggressive. Either say it or STFU.

Its a shame really since he is a great driver that will as Glen says, have all the records when the dust settles.

Did anyone else notice there were 30,000 fans in attendance at the Russian GP? At least that was the reported number. The stands looked fairly full.

I'm curious how that came to be and whether it will continue in other venues.

Thanks, I had not seen that.

I just do not think Leclerc went out of his way to punt Stroll.

They might as well get it over with, this record breaking and all. In the case of Schumacher, he might very well have had an advantage, and an unfair one at that — Ferrari cheating. I don't want to be put on record for having said that. When it comes to Vettle's 4 in a row, the stars were in alignment once again. And now Mercedes has the car and the driver, so much so that records look to be beaten.

This may be the last of that. If rules changes make it impossible for a team to dominate such as many have in their day, then the chances of a car/driver advantage is unlikely in the future.

Russia has had much fewer Covid-19 deaths per capita than the rest of the world so they're OK'd to not socially distance.

Honda just announced their out of F1 at the end of next season!

Now who do I root for? Mic Schumacher?

legion 10-02-2020 06:31 AM

So they finally get their **** together with Red Bull and then they quit.

javadog 10-02-2020 06:32 AM

Honda has different goals than most, when they enter F1. Racing of any kind for them is an exercise in developing their people. They've been in and out for decades.

matthewb0051 10-02-2020 07:47 AM

Honda...

This is turning into a one, possibly two manufacturer series (assuming the red cars can get it together again). Three if you consider Renault. I really believe F1 is in dire straits if things don't change. The Merc dominance is certainly a feat to behold but without some competition it may really hurt the sport and with the closest competitor leaving there doesn't appear to be any competition in the future.

sammyg2 10-02-2020 08:01 AM

It'll have to morph into another spec class in order to survive.

they effed up with all that stupid hybrid battery crap.
Shoulda stayed with v10s or at least 3 liter v8s without all the complicated stuff. They are pricing themselves out of the market so to speak.

Deschodt 10-02-2020 08:29 AM

Haha this is awesome... I've disliked Marko/Horner since they poo-pooed renault so badly after winning several championships with their engine, now they may have to come back to them.... Because like hell mercedes will give them an engine, and Ferrari's is worse than Renault's right now with the clever cheats removed ! Maybe they'll do the classic "go to cosworth" or build their own, they considered it for a minute.. Maybe Mr Mateschitz will take his marbles and leave ? I bet Verstappen is pissed off he signed a long term deal.

Really strange oh honda though, they finally are coming good, and turn tail ? I agree with Sammy 100% on keeping it simple, but the original idea was manufacturers wanted that electric crap for relevance to regular car sales. Guess it's too expensive now, maybe simplify it with a brake regen - passing boost only, use that for passing instead of DRS, simplify the motors, back to V10-12s for noise... win win ?

javadog 10-02-2020 08:35 AM

Red Bull just need to buy one of those new Aston Martin engines.

Maybe a couple of them.

matthewb0051 10-02-2020 01:38 PM

Maybe this is an opportunity for Porsche or Tag Heuer to reenter the fray. ;)

Captain Ahab Jr 10-02-2020 02:55 PM

Sad day for Honda, F1 and world motorsport but the world is changing so companies like Honda have to adapt or they die :(
