Merc nail biting. lol

Noah930 08-02-2020 12:07 PM

What a boring race for about 48 laps. OK, maybe 47, because the first lap is always exciting. But what a finish! I don't recall ever seeing something like that, other than with Lightning McQueen.

nota 08-02-2020 12:10 PM

official team statement by copy-point about hulk's car

a bolt broke off and jammed the clutch so the motor would NOT turn to start

Noah930 08-02-2020 04:56 PM

Well that's embarrassing.

chapo 08-02-2020 05:17 PM

I watched every lap of a three hour Imsa race and time flew by. I watched about ten laps total of F1 and forwarded through the rest

All the years Mercedes ran that same car it never happened. Hulkemberg luck all the way.

Accurate.

F1: first 3 laps, last 3 laps.
Laundry and vacuuming in the middle.

It was cleaning the fishtanks for me.

rusnak 08-02-2020 08:59 PM

I skipped it. Until there is real suspense, no reason to watch. And then there is LH. I don't care to watch him.

livi 08-02-2020 10:56 PM

I suggest Lewis moves to Portland and leaves his seat to Kimi.

dan79brooklyn 08-02-2020 11:11 PM

I don’t understand the LH disrespect from some of the off topic crowd here. Whatever you think of his personality or off track life, there should be no doubt of his talent and competitive spirit. He’s gonna beat all of Schumacher’s records this season. GOAT. IMO.

Very few is anyone would argue Hamilton is not a great driver. It is just annoying that many of the other equally great drivers don't get a chance against the Mercedes domination with such a superior car. His car is just so much better than everyone else except Botas, and he always get the bad luck. Lewis just won a race and did an entire lap on three tires!

His car has finished in the points in the last 65+ races except for one DNF. Yea, some of that is him, but mostly he has a car that can be turned up to 11 or 12 compared to the other cars. His luck seems to be astonishing. And he likely will beat all the records held by just everyone.

Deschodt 08-03-2020 07:02 AM

+1... It's not Lewis, it's the predictability. We lived through 7 years of utter Schumi domination, 4 of Vettel domination (that was no as bad because Weber was entertaining as a number 2) and now 6+ years of Hamilton or mercedes ? The problem is I can already make a guess as to who wins next week ;-) (watch - now something funky will happen). Even when Mercedes gets it wrong, it's always on Bottas... Lewis has all the luck Hulkenberg never will. Would be a fascinating season without Mercedes. The only question mark for me is WTH happened to the pink cars leading most FP sessions, and a real bummer for the hulk. Also for Russell who strikes me as a the real deal and in stuck in a Williams.

To make this season more of a yawn, the banning of Ferrari's clever fuel flow "cheats" from last year means HAAS, Alfa and Ferrari are *nowhere* this year, so it's a race between Lewis, Valterri and Max...Every w/e. The rest can eat the crumbs. Yawn.

I missed the race, but check out the podcast "Beyond the Grid". Just discovered it a few weeks ago, but they had 45 minute interview with Russell last week. It looks like he has an exciting future.

Geez Pirelli, time to re-look at your tire tech. Poor showing

He is very, very talented. But he's also a dooosh.
Someone a long time ago screwed up and told him that what he has to say is important for all to hear.
If he'd just shut the heck up and drive and leave the preaching about global warming and vegitarianism and politics out of it, I'd be his biggest fan.
We'll maybe not his BIGGEST fan, I'm sure others are more fond of his prissy hair-primping and facial hair fashion faux-pas more than I am.
But he can drive.

URY914 08-03-2020 10:16 AM

He can drive the BEST car very well.

Agreed. He has talent. I just wish he had the talkativeness of Kimi.

David 08-03-2020 10:53 AM

I think this is some of the best racing we've seen in years as long as you ignore the first 2 cars.

The thing that TV misses is how close the racing is. You can see the time between cars constantly changing as drivers make mistakes and loose ground while other drivers capitalize on other's mistakes. Glad to see less TV time for Mercedes and more for the guys in close races.

The idea for next Silverstone race was move to one level softer tyre availability to make it a two stop race.

Time will tell.

I think Pirelli would advise the teams to replace tires before they shred.

Love or hate LH, how many F1 drivers have become pop culture icons? Not many that I can think of. He brings attention to the sport. Kind of the Jeff Gordon of F1.

Zero. The worst nascar driver is more popular than the guy who retired because he lost his legs in an accident. There is no F1 driver even close in popularity to Bubba Wallace.

No smileys here. Boring. Looks like Kvyat hit the concrete barrier. Safe cars.

I think this is true if you're limiting your scope to the US.
Worldwide, this is not true.

dan79brooklyn 08-03-2020 04:19 PM

Why criticize someone in the global spotlight like Lewis Hamilton for standing up against racism, global warming the benefits of vegetarianism, being against animal cruelty etc.

That's the same attitude as the "shut up and dribble" people who criticized NBA players for speaking out.

I like Kimi, but he is not a great speaker or much of a role model. If you want to choose one F1 driver for a young racer to emulate, Lewis is the one. He doesn't come from a rich family and had to overcome a lot of challenges to get where he is.

He isn't number one solely based on his car. Remember when he was teammates with Alonso at Mclaren and out performed him? Alonso had to cheat to try to get an advantage.

rusnak 08-03-2020 11:11 PM

^ He can start to offer learned opinions when he actually reads IG posts before re-posting them, No? Otherwise he should just stick to rapping and offering fashion advice. As for standing up against "racism"....well not so much. Otherwise all lives would matter.

I also remember when Ham outperformed Alonso, and I remember how shocked I was to see Alonso's fanbase in Spain all wearing monkey suits and masks for the Spanish GP. Alonso should have spoken up for his teammate at that time, and F1 should have done the right thing then but didn't. I have never been a fan of Alonso, based on this. It was hard to watch.

I question that. One name, Schumacher. Different time periods.

So it came out in the press that force india DID in fact completey copy the Mercedes brake ducts.... They actually purchased them from Mercedes in 2019, when it was supposedly legal to do so per Otmar Szafnauer (I have no clue about F1 law and dates, his opinion). Their argument shifted to: "yes we reverse engineered them but it was legal to do so then, Renault is applying 2020 rules to 2019". Interesting...

Considering everything else they buy to go with the engine and gearbox/ rear end, it really is a pink mercedes...

Except way less reliable. Poor Hulkkenberger could not even get out of the garage. The Mercedes always starts, and virtually always finishes the race, usually at the front.

Noah930 08-04-2020 02:20 PM

Yeah, for once in his F1 career Hulk has a podium-level car...and then the mechanics can't even get it to start. Hope he gets another chance this weekend.

Vettel-Aston Martin move ‘decided for some time’
Date published: August 6 2020

Sebastian Vettel’s move to Aston Martin next season “has been substantially decided for some time”, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport.

Gazzetta claims talks between the driver, who is leaving Ferrari at the end of this year, and the team that will be rebranded from Racing Point initially occurred “more than two months ago”.

That timeframe reflects when the first rumours linking Vettel with Aston Martin began to emerge.

Similarly, the pink-paged newspaper also endorsed recent speculation that Aston Martin were all set to announce Vettel as the replacement for Sergio Perez until the Mexican tested positive for COVID-19 on the eve of the British Grand Prix weekend.

“The first contacts took place more than two months ago and the plan was to announce the signing of the German between the two Silverstone races.

“The basis of the agreement has been substantially decided for some time but it was necessary to establish (and monetise) the role Vettel would have had as Formula 1 ambassador of the new Aston Martin brand, which from 2021 will give the team its name.

“Well, the commercial details of the contract should now be in place too. But in the meantime, Sergio Perez, the driver destined to be replaced by Vettel, contracted the coronavirus and was forced to miss a GP.

“So the team, for reasons of delicacy, could postpone the announcement of Vettel’s engagement and separation from the Mexican, who has been a pillar in recent seasons, bringing sponsors (around $15million a year) and results.”

The report also referred to termination clauses in Perez’s contract and the Mexican’s recent quotes stating that he would be the likeliest driver replaced due to his team-mate being Lance Stroll, son of Racing Point’s owner Lawrence Stroll.

Gazzetta continued: ‘Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer had recently come out of the closet admitting the existence of the deal: ‘We are interested in Vettel’.

“After the race on Sunday, another clue was added: the Ferrari driver was seen getting into Szafnauer’s car to probably go to a meeting at the team’s headquarters, which is located right next to the Silverstone racetrack.”

looks unlikely, Sergio passed the UK quarantine and is getting a tet today, if negative he drives. Only Hulk could be this unlucky, it's unreal... Must be the #27, scourge of villeneuve and Alesi...

GH85Carrera 08-06-2020 08:04 AM

So a team that will be named Austin Martin will be running a car that is essentially a Mercedes. WTF?
