This followed me home today, and I didn't even want it!
I got a call from a girl I went to high school (over 40 years ago) about her bother's car which I offered to buy 40 years ago, and wondered if I still want to buy it. It has been in the garage for untill the garage fell down around it 5 years ago. The bother has died and the house was sold and it needed to be gone today! They were going to call the junk yard if I didn't save it. So now it sits in my driveway and will have to find a buyer for it. Car is not rusty, at least on the outside and has been off the road since 73', and reads only 55k miles on it. Its a 62' Mk 2. Most likely would cost more to restore than what it would be worth, but if someone wanted to make a ratrod driver out of it.

I am open to offers as I really just didn't want to see it go to the junk yard, so if anyone is interested in it let talk!

Always considered that to be an extremely attractive and sophisticated sedan design.
All that said, no thanks...

I've always thought those would make a neat limo. Convert the rear doors to suicide - paint it black and snazzy up the interior. I had a previous co-worker about 25 years ago with one for sale. He lived up in N Ga mountains - but not Fulton (metro ATL) county.

I always thought a jag running gear rat rod would be cool on one of these.
Same drivetrain as a 3.8 E type, yes? Pull out the interior, remove glass and other superfluous stuff like a heater, drill some holes so people really do know you are a poseur. Rip off the trim, maybe a straight pipe and some agressive tires. Drop the ride height and what you got? A jag rod. I'd drive it. |

Excellent question. I love these but this looks like a huge project. I've owned 2 series III XJ6's and a lovely 76 XJ6C. The guy I bought the coupe from and eventually sold it back to, had an award winning MK2. They just have lovely lines.
My coupe and my last series III. ![]()

My buddy has one and has a fuel injected (mega squirt) 3.8 in it with a T5 trans out of a mustang. The car looks original and it in perfect shape. It’s actually sitting right beside my 76 930 right now.

Its manual with a 4 speed, I haven't looked to see if it has an overdrive on it.

I would pressure wash the whole thing and get it running/driving well then you'll be able to sell it easily.
Don't fix anything that doesn't need fixing. Just get it going and make sure the brakes work well. Ignore any rust... Maybe rub some linseed oil on any larger areas. Patina is worth keeping.

I can picture myself driving around in that just the way it is. The body is quite beautiful on those cars and with a 4 speed, well, bob's your uncle!

Apparently that triple carb intake is not stock.

That motor won LeMans several times in the '50's. When they run right they're indestructible. The automatic will be a Ford Borg Warner unit. The rebuild kit & torque converter will likely come from Ford (or Rock Auto) fairly cheap. I believe the later sedans used the E-type IRS diff unit with inboard disc brakes. There is a ton of leading edge engineering (1950's) in that little sedan. Virtually the template for the later small BMW performance sedans 30 years later.
