I had engine fuel leaks on both my T and SC, both could have ended that way.

When I bought the old E, it had just been converted to carbs by the previous owner. I had it trucked the two hours to home and started working on it. At one point I was getting a strong smell of gas when the engine was running. I opened the engine cover and could see gas leaking from the connections to the fuel pressure regulator onto the front of the not yet warm engine.
Needless to say my next task was to re-tighten all of the fuel line connections.
Why yes, I did carry a fire extinguisher after that. Funny you should ask.

Best

Unfortunately, I had the same experience a few years ago. I now carry 4 fire extinguishers. 4.
One extinguisher put the fire out. When it reflashed I had nothing left. The car is back on the
road with 4 chances to get the job done.

I think as these cars get more and more valuable, (and critical parts age out and maintenance perhaps gets neglected..) a racing style suppression system with aimed nozzles and a large AFFF tank would be a worthwhile investment. For a few hundred bucks, your car could be saved with the pull of a lever,

Then again, you could always just maintain your car and replace all of the 30 year old rubber fuel lines that look dried-out and are known for leaking on 3.2 motors.

But what do I know...

This. Even the OEM combo stainless and rubber crossover hoses are only a few hundred bucks. If I have another 911, this will be part of my baseline activities.

Most of the clip does not show the car on fire but the reaction of the truck driver and the owner. Don't think the former knows the engine is at the rear. In this case there was ample warning, smoking, poor running, I wouldn't have driven the car in that state of tune for a 3.2 ... That last rev it up probably blew out the fuel hose.

Yup.

Looks like another victim of the notorious 3.2L rear fuel line. When they get old/brittle, they often get pinhole leaks that spray/soak the rear sound mat. So even without preventative maintenance, you can often catch it before catastrophic failure/fire (the heavy fuel odor should be a clue). If you continue to ignore the fuel smell, this is what you get. Sad to see, regardless...

Years ago when Pintos were still on the road in regular use I pulled over with my fire extinguisher in hand and approached the Pinto. The owner got in front of me and said "get back in your car!" then he turned around to watch the Pinto and urged it to burn baby burn.

Good fuel lines. Certainly not great fuel lines.

The video time stamp is 2012... was a 20K car at best at that time.

Still painful.
