Here’s an opportunity. Looking for a change, no other reason to get rid of the rig. 2016 RRSport diesel. Have done the major services (timing and high pressure fuel belts), new a/c compressor, newish suspension compressor, heated and cooled seats, aftermarket sound system with Audison amp, speakers and sub, cool box, towing package, replacement aftermarket rear sequential lights, small leather package, aftermarket 22’s with new Yoko Pradas (305/40/22). Looking for mid $20k’s. Two year only color, Zanzibar with Ivory. All finishes in great condition.

My first wife wanted a Jaguar. This was in the mid to late 90's. I happened upon a low mile 85 series III XJ, black on black. Gorgeous car. It ended up being a good purchase. We moved, the car left us and a few years later she wanted a newer one. I bought an early 2000s XJ8 still under warranty. I spent many days in the dealership service area getting the rear end and some other bits sorted. All under warranty.
I met a lady in there, we crossed paths a few times. Her wealthy husband insisted on owning Range Rovers. Unfortunately they lived in a small town 2 hours from the dealership through a mountain pass. They had two. She was in charge of visits to the dealership for repairs due to his work. At one point she walked me through the number of trips she'd made for warranty items. Everything from blown stereo speakers to more major mechanical things. She just rolled her eyes. In a few short years both vehicles had racked up dozens of trips between the 2. I vowed to never own one despite the fact I think they look great. Same with any newer Jag. That thing was fine for a few years but the trans died at 60k miles after we divorced. Luckily it was hers and not mine :-)

The older Discos A/C are very good IF they have a rear A/C unit, which one of my old ones had. Still though the A/C is good on the older ones, my son would disagree but he sets it to automatic mode so his fault. MPG: The Disco IIs are high teens, ditto for my P38 Range Rover. But when there isn't a gigantic car payment all is relevant. Like any other vehicle, it depends on how you drive it, wanna be a hooligan, you will pay as the older ones are slow and putting your foot down will correlate with crap MPG.

I hear ya. My fingers are crossed. So far so good. I bought the extended warranty for piece of mind. As of right now the car has been excellent. Really thought I wanted a Turbo Cayenne. But enjoyed driving the SVR more after a few test drives of each, so I pulled the trigger.

I have a question. Why can't they build a slightly more reliable vehicle? The technology is out there to be share or had, buy why? Bad management? With Ford and BMW taken over, that should be it. So WTF is wrong with them?

The British automotive industry has NEVER been known for reliability. They are known for speed, style, luxury but certainly not reliability so it’s not in the engineering culture. There is a lot of engineering talent in the UK (witness all the F1 teams) but they have never really embraced the relentless quest for reliability that Edward Demming taught the Japanese. I wish my fellow countrymen had offered him a plane ticket. There is also a degree of arrogance with the Brits who seem to think that American mechanics are not smart enough to maintain British cars. That is simple BS. British cars are unreliable. Simple as that.
