My wife said some talking head on TV were saying one reason people are buying TP is that they feel they just have to do something to ease the panic. So it is something easy to do, that makes them feel like they are doing something to help themselves in the current situation. I can only guess it takes all their intellect to get in a car and drive to the store and buy TP, so they feel better.

In my yoot, a bunch of us were taking a 10 day houseboat trip on Shasta lake.
We stopped at a store in Redding to stock up on many cases of beer and booze and ice, three shopping carts full. While waiting in line my smart-ass brother threw in a pack of wrigley's spearmint.

The cashier lady looked at all the stuff and asked, "are you having a party?"

My brother immediately replied "naw, we just really like gum".
