Just lost another college roommate.....

Was just browsing FB and saw a pic posted of a roommate (Mike) from college along with his obit.

He was also a high school classmate from NSB but one year behind me. We ended up rooming together in an upstairs apartment (second story of a house) from '75-'76 at the University of Florida. The following year I moved out to live at the Horticulture Department's research and greenhouse property where along with another Hort senior we received free rent for keeping an eye on things there.

That roommate (Gary) passed away a few years back.

Had a lot of great times with both these guys and am sorry we never stay connected after college.

Here's a pic of Mike (l) and his brother Dan I took while on a surf trip to the Bahamas.

Second pic is me on that same trip.

RIP Mike - and the other roommate Gary......

That sucks, sorry for your loss. Doing the math, he must have been only early 60s...do you know what got him?

Dang, sorry Baz. Kind of tragic how sometimes life catches up like that.

I only just learned of a good buddy's passing last week. Problem is, it happened in 2018. "Someday" just seems to pass us by sometimes. I was always going to head over the Idaho to see Dean "someday". We kept in touch, kind of, but I had not seen him in 20 years. We just assume this is all forever... At our age, it's really not, anymore...

The post said his girlfriend found him "unresponsive" and asked everyone not to speculate. That's all I know. He was 63-64. Too young!

Thanks, Denis.

Thanks, Jeff and you're right. There is no tomorrow, essentially. Sorry for your loss as well, brother.

Very sorry for you Baz....Way too young as I was in college 3-4 yrs prior......

Some 8 years ago, I had 9 people I knew that died that year. At the end of the year, I couldn't name them all. I said "Next year, I'll keep a list".......I didn't thinking the number wouldn't be that high.....Turns out it surpassed the number 9 and has been every year since.......Sad times...

Sorry to hear about that Baz, but at least you have good memories. I hate to say it but it will only get worse as the years go on. An old girlfriend called me today. We were together from '69 to '71 and have remained friends since. Today she was telling me about having arthritis in her fingers and looking into going into a home for old people.

If there’d been a tong tin of my college roommates I would not have been figured as the survivor.

Welcome to "that" age group. Keep breathing and one day you'll realize that the majority of your old buddies are gone. It's just the way it is...

I've stopped counting...Seems like every other month I'm attending a funeral.

My mother goes to a funeral twice a month or so.

When one "comes of age" there is a period of going to a lot of weddings and helping friends move with a lot of car and pickup loads. Finally one gets to the point where the friends just hire a large truck to move, and movers.

Then the inevitable age of going to way more funerals than weddings. And the wedding are for the kids or grandkids or your friends and relatives.

I'm sorry for your loss, Barry. Fortunately you have the pictures and the memories of great adventures with like-minded people living a dream!

That's it. Memories like in those photos...forever young. Every generation has it's time in the sun. Today, for my generation, it's another generation's turn. Enjoy the ride, kids...may you have a better one than we did.
