Who here thinks they already had this in months past ?
Yawn, another cv thread.
I've seen it mentioned here, and all over social media. Mid Feb, just as things were hitting the fan over there, My family was really sick. 2 year old got it, then me, then wifey. Terrible cough, that kept me up for 2 nights . I had the chills, and sweats ( never checked for fever ) . I was down for 2 days, but really struggled for the next week to keep going every day . Just wrestled with aches and pains, and no energy It took almost 2 weeks to fully run it's course . Wife and 2 year old had the same symptoms, with some vomiting and stomach sickness. I did not get that part. My 14 year old with the worst hygene on the planet, was not affected . I know at least 10 people who went through the same thing. and those that went to the doctors, tested negative for flu, and were given the diagnosis of upper respiratory infection . I would not be all that surprised to find out, that it already had made some rounds in our parts I am only off a few weeks on the timeline, and we are only 350 miles from NYC.

Same here. I work in a global industry and a Canadian owned company, lots of travel. I and my team were also spending a lot of time in the DC area in late 2019. It went through my house in January, I had probably the worst and most persistent cough of my life along with a lot of chest congestion and tightness. My 15 year old son was out for a week and 12 year old daughter were out for four days with high fever and upper respiratory issues. 9 year old and wife both had a cough and flu like symptoms. I talked to my doctor neighbor who thinks the odds are very good that it was here before we knew it, particularly now that it’s clear that China was having issues far sooner than we knew about it. From his standpoint, how do you diagnose and test for a virus that you don’t know exists?
This has been a frequent conversation I’ve had recently, I’ve talked to dozens that feel the same way.

I think that is possible my son and therefore me... had it back in January.
He was sick about 12 -14 days went to the Dr. twice - negative flu test twice, negative strep and negative mono, all blood work looked normal - the symptoms were about dead on. I was feeling crappy for almost 3 weeks

sounds like what I had started jan 27 cough fever/chills lungs hurt but no nose running or sore throat
not like a normal cold or flu very weak after and took far longer to feel back to normal then most bugs would like to get the anti-body test to see if I had the cv-19 but that is not available locally yet would be good to know if I now do not need to fear the virus wife had very minor case unlike most cold/flu bugs that hit her harder then me |

I have heard similar accounts from people I know, though I have not been ill (knock wood.) When tests were extremely restricted, as in your case, the only thing left was to rule out the flu. That does not confirm the presence of Coronavirus, however.
Given the early date of your illnesses and the fact that COV-19 symptoms are similar to many others, you, and the rest of us, probably won't know until an anti-body test is developed and run on suspected cases--if that is ever done. Meanwhile, you and your family can "hope" that you had mild cases and that you now have some type of immunity. Again, another unknown. Stay safe.

Keep in mind that only 15% showing symptoms test positive.

This has also been a serious, if not record year for the regular flu.
Irregardless* some of the people around here have had some serious flu symptoms. *______________ ________ |

I got something similar in February.... I use a sketchy massage place (because they consistently give great massages... no, there are no happy endings), and around the time i remember getting sick, one of the massage ladies ended up in the hospital with some mysterious illness, and the other girl was married to an uber driver in NYC with a recent visit... I had a 102.5 fever for about a week. Distinctly lung related, lost taste, and had a lingering cough for a couple weeks. I remembered thinking it was certainly a strange flu, and I didn't remember the flu being so concentrated in the lungs, but I shrugged it off as coincidence. Could have been the flu, but could have aslo been corona. I wasn't tested for either because I was basically stable. I slept easily 18 hours a day and drank so much water that at the end I couldn't stand the taste of it.

So now, as someone here had suggested, the virus may have cruelly been around but undetected for years:

I was sick over X-Mas when we went to Florida. I had a constant cough and I just felt like crap but no fever. The cold of the Florida Panthers arena really aggravated my cough. It lasted 3 weeks.
Fast forward to yesterday. Never felt great all day. Made the big mistake by running 10k. I avoided people by running on the road for most of the run. Still some people just don't know or care. They walk in groups or stop in the middle of a paved trail. Today I feel like I'm coming down with something. I have a slight headache, I'm tired, and I have a 101 fever.

Posted previously. Maybe I had it. Who really knows, the news out of China is suspect for good reason. All I know is I had a strange bug, came and went, exhausted most of the time and woke during then night feeling like crap when I went to bed ok. Not my previous experience with the normal flu which hits like a homerun on your head and you're out for a week+. This one was different, like my body was working it out over a period of time.
Yes get it that I didn't get lung issues which is common, but I'm only 57 and pretty much healthy. That said I knew this bug was a new one. |

I am nearly convinced I had in May of 2019, last day at sea on an Alaskan cruse, a British or maybe Australian couple with 2 small kids I had encountered several times for some reason on the ship. Both kids coughing up a lung every time I saw them, several of our group ill on the trip with the worst sinus symptoms, head ache, not able to get of bed for 2-3 days. Me sick the last night of being on the ship, completely incapacitated the next 3 to 4 days, fever no energy did not eat anything 3 days solid. Me I am under 50 by a few years, workout like crazy, had flu shot etc... I am nearly convinced this thing has been around much longer than we think by far

I don't think this has been around for a long time. It would have taken off to NY proportions otherwise in that area. This bug doesn't hang around for long before taking off. Specifically very busy ERs and deaths would have been clearly visible. The earliest undetected pocket in the US was probably WA and that took off pretty quickly to very detectable levels. If you said you are from WA and had it in February, then maybe. Otherwise, wishful thinking. I know it would be nice to have had it and go back to work or volunteer with a relief effort. I had a bad cold a month ago and it scared me good. Unfortunately I also don't think that was it. It went around in the company, 20+people PLUS their families, you bet there would have been a couple going to the hospital.

In mid-November I was on a cruise ship to Mexico. The day after I got home, I went to China, came back on Dec. 5. I was in WA for Xmas and friends from China visited us there. In mid-Jan. I had the worst flu ever, it knocked me on my ass for two weeks and the cough lingered another month. I think I had it. Mrs. Lee had it too.

I've already post a couple time about my wife. Came home from India in mid Feb. Got flu soon after, terrible cough. Had conjunctivitis in her eyes, despite not leaving the house for over 10 days. Daughter and I did not get sick, and least I don't think we did. I got sick about 3 weeks ago, but it only lasted about 3 days, so I don't think it's related.

I think it has been around longer than 4 months. Really, the Chinese government decides in under a month to build 2 hospitals in 2 weeks? They knew more than they're telling us, a lot earlier than they're telling us, and the origin of this latest mega "flu" outbreak is in the same city as China's virus experimentation laboratory but never mind that, somehow blame it all on bats - or more to the point, on the Chinese peoples' ridiculous obsession with eating wild live animals based on a belief in black magic and superstition. That is a lot of miraculous coincidence and fortune-telling going on over there.
Why are we not talking about spending the trillions of dollars of COV "bail out money" (pork barrel borrowed funds) on moving the pharmaceutical manufacturing to the USA instead of China? Like NOW. Why has our government not made official statements about the origin of COV-19? Am I the only one wondering why our Federal government has not made a public statement about this? They are more interested in bickering like children. Why are we not demanding that China permanently ban all trade, and more importantly, the actual consumption, of all wild animals within their borders? Furthermore, the practice of selling live animals for consumption of any type in any non-sterile outdoor El Cheapo janky sidewalk bodega has got to be our number one target when this emergency has gone past critical. Legislation has already been introduced, I think several weeks ago, to move manufacturing of critical items out of China. Specifically including medical supplies. Also, Trump has been CRITICIZED for referring to this as the China virus. I hope if there’s one silver lining it will be reducing our reliance on this corrupt communist enemy of the USA.
