Tell us more

BTW, ADDvanced you cheapen the name Liberal - which has it's roots in Liberty. Clearly you have an aversion to people living their lives freely. Statist sounds more fitting for you -

ADDvanced 05-21-2020 07:28 AM

Maybe. I despise labels, to be honest.

Anyway, have fun, I'm bailing on this topic as data has shown that Sweden's approach is obviously retarded.

I'm still not sure why we aren't following the Madagascar Plan. Easily one of the best plans going.

Well, these guys seem to at least be posting OK data, so here are the hard cold facts on the matter

The "hard cold facts on the matter" only include comparative data from the Netherlands, US, and Canada?

From waaay back on page 20 (and it's interactive/updated in real-time, BTW):

I only included countries in which I reside + Sweden...and that website only allows 4 choices anyway.

Well that settles it then! :p :D

Seriously, Sweden is definitely not the lowest in deaths per capita, but it is not the highest, and those countries that have higher counts have had much more strict shelter-in-place/lock-down rules.

Also, Sweden has a MUCH larger population, infrastructure, and travel/commerce/trade volume than the other Nordic countries everyone is comparing it to.
IOW, a LOT more people were moving about in and out of Sweden than the others in late 2019/early 2020 when the impact (or existence) of C19 was not yet known.

;)

Denmark 5.8M
Sweden - 10.3M
Norway - 5.3M
Iceland - 0.4M
Finland - 5.5M
Netherlands - 17.4M
New York State - 19.1M

...yes there are some tiny ones, with Sweden the biggest....

Just the facts...

If your argument is sound, personal insults and political commentary shouldn't be needed.
Keep it clean please.

No one, however, would have predicted this news item from last week: “Covid-19 deaths in Sweden were the highest in Europe per capita in a rolling seven-day average between 12 and 19 May.” It confirmed that Sweden’s state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell’s “mitigation” strategy of allowing shops, restaurants, gyms, schools and workplaces to remain open was a deadly folly. It does not even seem to have produced herd immunity. Just 7.3% of Stockholm’s inhabitants had developed Covid-19 antibodies by the end of April.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/commentisfree/2020/may/23/sweden-covid-19-policy-model-for-right-also-a-deadly-folly

Sweden's overall mortality rate is 396/million - which is 4-7x their neighbors: Denmark 97/million, Norway 43/million, Finland 55/million. Who, even as they discuss opening their borders to each other, don't want to include Sweden. Because, while their new case #'s are dropping, they're also much lower (all < 100 per day, most 20-40/day), while Sweden's are holding steady somewhere around 650 new cases/day.

From the same article as above
Quote:

Sweden’s position may be graver than the weekly figure implies, Lena Einhorn, a Swedish virologist and author, told me. Recorded cases of Covid-19 follow a bell curve. All severely infected countries, including the UK, are seeing infections fall as they move down the far side of the curve, apart from Trump’s America and Sweden. In both instances, they have declined slightly then hit a plateau.

I personally believe this is a human "culling of the herd" as according to the data I follow most closely (Netherlands), its about 60-70% of deaths are occurring for folks in the 85-89 age group, and scarcely any below 50.

Seems to be behaving differently everywhere (one article I read said they may be on the verge of identifying 5-6 groups of people who'll have different symptoms/reactions to the virus).

But
Quote:

In Brazil, 15 percent of deaths have been people under 50 — a rate more than 10 times greater than in Italy or Spain. In Mexico, the trend is even more stark: Nearly one-fourth of the dead have been between 25 and 49. In India, officials reported this month that nearly half of the dead were younger than 60. In Rio de Janeiro state, more than two-thirds of hospitalizations are for people younger than 49.

“This is new terrain compared to what’s happened in other countries,” said Daniel Soranz, the former municipal health minister in Rio de Janeiro. “Brazil is a very important country to be looking at.”

While in Africa, the mortality/infection rate appears low:

Quote:

The pandemic "appears to be taking a different pathway in Africa," the WHO said.

Case numbers "have not grown at the same exponential rate as in other regions" and the continent has not experienced the high mortality seen in some parts of the world.

I like how I posted this a bit ago and people looked at the data and concluded the exact opposite. People are so dumb.

Data says Sweden Transmission rate low

"Swedens doing stuff right"

Data says they're higher than other nordic countries

"yeah sweden"

Data says they're now higher than any other country in the world

"Yeah I mean it's just what needs to happen, like I said"

Just my opinion, cheers!

Has it?

Compare Switzerland to neighboring Austria. Is Switzerland's approach also obviously retarded? And a follow up Q; how is Switzerland's approach so different than Austria's? Or is it? Or is it that some countries get hit much harder than neighboring counties REGARDLESS of approach to handling this" ?

San Marino has the most deaths per million. In fact it is over TWICE the death % than neighboring Italy, and 3x more than Sweden's. Is it because their (San Marino) approach is obviously retarded?

Canada's deaths per million is nearly HALF that of neighboring US. Is it because our (US) approach is obviously retarded?

You also say " People are so dumb." Do you mean the people who ignore the bigger picture because they want the non-group-think country to look worse than it is? Those people?

island911 05-24-2020 07:29 AM

Clearly Sweden should follow Ethiopia's methods, as they have only .04 CV deaths per million. (lowest of all reporting)
Yeah Ethiopia... Every other country's approach is obviously retarded.

People are so dumb.
