I know one thing I'll do different for certain! I'll never put off getting a haircut because "it can wait"

Buy more local / support small biz.

Less China imports. More local Chinese biz (food).

Rebuild the rainy day fund.

Take more trips, don’t put off things.

Buy that R90S I’ve always wanted.

Go fishing more. I meant, again.

This has already been an interesting ride. I quit my job and launched my own office on Feb 1. Crazy time for this to blow up. Surprisingly, things are on track, or in the ballpark. It helps that I was already planning on 6 months without income, so inadvertently was set up okay for what happened. Now looks like it’ll be 2-3 of zero, 1-2 of little, then income should be close to previous run-rate by the 6 month mark. I’m looking for 2020 to be an interesting year and 2021 to be a good year!

Oh! And I'm buying more TP when this is all over! Seems like an important item to have when everyone is panic buying. And yeast for making bread too! For Chrissakes! I can't find a store with any Fleishman's yeast packets. How's a guy supposed to make pizza dough?

^^ For the pizza dough. You're on your own when it comes to taking care of your rusty sheriff's badge.

Value the life I have already. Enjoy surfing, eating out, drinking too much, fighting in the street, picking fresh flowers, the list goes on.

Agree. Actually things are peaceful in the city now. Kinda like it was when I was a kid.

Was out on errands today. 2 cars at a light, not 2 lights to get through which was the norm on city streets during rush hour. Freeways are busy and a lot faster. They are really more noisy than before when people crawled. Skies are clear. That's one thing tha wasn't the case in the 50's and 60's. We had the worst smog — couldn't take a deep breath in the afternoon during the summer of you'd go into a coughing fit.

I think the changes have already been made. For the first time I’ve really confronted the fact that something could come between MrsWD and I. I sit with her and talk more and spend a little less time laser focused on whatever project I’m obsessing about at the moment.
Island’s constant twaddle about how worthless old people are has reminded me how I cherish my 65 year old wife. It’s a good lesson.

I was okay with the savings part prior to the shyte storm. I think I'm naturally "tighter than bark on a tree" so I should be able to fill the coffers back up quickly. Everybody's been home binge watching Netflix, Amazon, etc so production will be off the charts for new content.

My work is long, hard and stressful so I really look forward to my time off to go fishing, camping, see the Grandkids, etc. But after almost 3 months of sitting on my ass not able to travel I won't be able to take a real vacation for awhile. Got to make hay while the sun shines.

I'm definitely staying away from "Made In China", no more Harbor Freight, Walmart, etc. Strictly buy USA or friendly trade partners, China can eat a bag of dicks as far as I'm concerned.

Isn't there a thread in here somewhere about "made in America?"

.Like buy Allen Edmond/etc?

Edit- and to think- all this time off gave me the time/insight needed to get my HF sandblaster to blast like a mofo... (it only took 2.5 years)
(don't worry about wallyworld though- I ain't going there!)

Consider the source. Island wouldn't know an ounce of respect if it was a white powder on a mirror.

I don't know how that (and similar) beat goes on and on. It's pretty much killed PPOT.

Getting weaned off of cheap Chinese crap will be difficult...we've gotten addicted to it. I feel like I should mention that the CEO/founder of Harbor Freight is a childhood friend of one of my pals and that he donated their entire stock of gloves and masks, (it's a nationwide chain), to hospitals and first responders. Guy is a total mensch and I won't forget it.

Probably will stop using cash, since I haven’t touched a bill in 6 weeks. Besides am wracking up more useless Air miles at this point and will continue to until I can use them.

Will be more grateful to have dinner out and having friends over for dinner. will savor hikes on public lands once they reopen.

Might be figure out how to block views of Island’s posts by then, but right now his name isn’t recognized. Does he have moderator super power?

I did it for several months, "Buy ABC". It's not hard but it is more costly. I paid almost $1000 more for my 2 post lift because it was Made in the USA. The seller was shocked when I answered their question of why I wanted the lift I picked over the cheaper one. I told them "Americans buy the items I sell. Until buyers from China start buying the things I sell, I'm going to buy products made by the people who buy the things I sell"

We need an awakening in this country. We as consumers have sold our fellow Americans out by purchasing goods made in countries with significantly lower wage structure and regulation. I've heard so many people complain about the lack of good paying jobs. I tell them "Look around your house. Look at where your TV, Appliances, Furniture, Clothing, Tools, Hardware items etc come from. Then you might figure out why we have no good paying jobs". A lot of people say we have no choice. It's more that people are too lazy to research anything.

That cuts both ways. There is a place for cheap Chinese goods. When I can buy a Chinese 52" TV for $200 instead of a US made TV for $1000, that's $800 more I have to spend on stuff you sell.
Good paying jobs aren't assembly jobs, they are skill jobs. I'm fine with letting the Chinese assemble my iPhone and paying Americans good wages to build important, essential things - and that would include pharmaceuticals. I was shocked to learn how much we rely on China and India to make the chemicals we put in our bodies.
Hand tools too - I like the way a good wrench fits in my hand.
