I ain't got no friends left, having alienated everyone at one time or another on this Board...

The last time it was like this was in 1932....same percentage of people outa work.. Thx to Hitler starting WW2..is what pulled the US outa that funk....

What gets me to no end is that people are still scheming and angling to game the system to make a buck...that is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic so that they get a sunny spot on deck...

All that oil parked on the high seas should be tellin ya sumthin...those Chinese factories are dormant to a large extent...who the fk in gona be buying a big screen or smart phone when they can't make the rent or buy food????

The government is gona start payin the rent and giving food to people...so that they ARE NOT HOMELESS and HUNGRY....If they are homeless and hungry...there will be a REVOLUTION>>>and the current leadership will wind up like Marie Antoinette..with their heads in a basket..

Do people need to be betoch slapped to get that???? Are they so stupid as to not get it...Un fkin beleivable...denial is a powerful thing..

It's a logical extension of his opinion.
If it costs too much to keep people healthy now, then it obviously costs too much to care for them after they're sick (ICU average is $40k per day). The obvious solution if you are looking at your economics is to kill off the old and infirm and take their assets now.
I am beginning to understand the need for man killer AKs to protect myself and my family.

But to be fair, the logical extension of your opinion is that every life is worth an infinite amount, paid by the government, to be extended for every possible minute.

I don’t think it’s anyone’s premise that this kills only the elderly, 100%. I’ve not seen anyone posit that.
Deaths are highly skewed towards the elderly, though.

How much time do we need to keep the seniors alive? Just until mid November.

Haven't seen any economic damage? You will. My tax and spend uncles mocked my dad back in the 60's and 70's because they said all the deficit spending the govt did hasn't hurt anything... Unfortunately eventually those "chickens came home to roost" and we are in a world of hurt due to the national deficit. You know all those cool $1200 check everyone gets and the billions given to rich universities? Who do you think is going to pay for that?

Actually the majority of Americans were against getting into the war. They wanted to keep their heads in the sand and hope Adolf would leave us alone. Pearl Harbor changed that.

US isn’t too different. Around 80% of deaths are 65 or older.

Yep. The 65s and older generation raised and paid for educations for the following generation. And some (but certainly not most) of our children think we are too expensive to protect. WE are not important when they need to make their car, and boat, and mortgage payments.

EDIT:
Or cell phone upgrade.

c'mon... at this rate we have over a year before we see TRIPLE-digit inflation.

Hey, on a completely unrelated topic, let's talk investment collectibles.

"too expensive to protect" ? You have money. Hire some body guards. I mean if you need others to protect you.

Seriously, what's all this shoving responsibility onto others to jump through safety hoops that are not likely gong to make one bit of difference in your safety? Are you just a control freak?

No. But you raise an interesting distinction between keeping sick individuals alive and preventing them from getting sick in the first place. In the Terri Schaivo case and many such individual cases where recovery was not deemed possible I think there should be limits to individual life support.
But welfare of the general population is different. We should not abandon an entire sector of the population because protecting them might be expensive. At $4000 a day for ICU care, NOT protecting them might be a lot more expensive. So are you going to go in and unplug ventilators because they are costing too much? Put on something like a parking meter that Medicare needs to keep feeding?
I think prevention is going to be the less expensive option unless you want to go with the pillow.

Nope. We should all keep a 9 under our pillows to protect us from those suffering from a few months of missing their boat payments.
