I don’t think they sell that version of the round to the public. Just law enforcement.

They're used in Mexico by the cartels.

Any rifle round will go through soft body armor. They are designed for pistol rounds.

Any thoughts on buying something like the Springfield SAINT or RUGER AR-556 pistol vs build yourself from a kit? I'm thinking of this from PSA:
![]() https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-10-5-5-56-nato-1-7-phosphate-classic-shockwave-pistol-kit-black-5165449130.html I've assembled a lower before, so no real issue.

I just bought that kit and built it two weeks ago. Works great. I already had a few stripped lowers laying around. I had it running in no time.
Edit: Mine has the Magpul handguards.

I would go with a 14 inch barrel for all around ballistics.
The lower barrel size looks cool, but are extremely loud and essentially a door buster gun. As always it comes down to practicality, vs fun. With that said if anyone needs a 7 inch barrel for the 223. I'll sell one cheap.

2900 is optimistic on normal ammo.

Interesting. That is a good chart. It seems to me that the larger rounds, while moving slower, might be a better choice.

It's a little bit more than that. 1:7 twist as in the link posted won't shoot lighter bullets with good results. The 1:7 is good for 55-69gr if using the chart. Which is the bulk/surplus ammo. m855 is 62 gr, 55 is the cheapy stuff that is always available, 64gr for tracer. The ballastics are predictable.
Compare those rounds with a short barrel .223/5.56 to the 7.62x39 through a short barrel akm. The velocities will be comparable, but the 7.62x39 has more energy. That's why I say they're fun, but realistically a toy.
