I feel bad for salesmen.

Covid ban is lifted. I had to run 3 of them out of my place before 9:30 am today .
I know they are just trying to make a living. So am I .
I tried to be polite, but wanted to choke the guy out who wanted to help me update my google listing . He got a little cocky when I told him I was not interested as soon as he started speaking . I swear at them when they cold call me. I definitely will not stand for google listing sales calls in person . The parts house guys, I can stomach .
Kudos to you guys who do it for a living . Must be tough

I do the same thing at my shop... Sometimes I feel bad after I run them off, when I think about how they are just trying to make a living themselves.....
My thoughts are, If I want to buy something I will find them. I don't go out trying to force people to use my services.

That isn't Google. They are shysters who claim they will do work for you.

We used to get cold call salesmen at our old commercial building. The silliest were the folks that wanted us to hire them to do a regular cleaning of the building. The front foyer and reception area looked OK, if you don't see dust. The rest of the place we called the Monster Garage. With a darkroom, storage areas everywhere, a 40 inch lawnmower, motorcycle, and computers everywhere it was a pit.

I know this, and there are thousands of them . I still get several calls a week . This and extended warranty vehicle contracts .
Funny, no one wants to put a warrant on my 930??

I'm constantly getting calls from commercial real estate brokers either wanting to list my property, or want me to buy something else.

I cut them short. Interrupt if necessary. I quickly say I'm not interested, and better luck with your next call.
I don't want to be rude, but I also don't want to waste their time, or mine.
I figure I'm doing them a favor by cutting this call short, so they can get on to the next call on their list.

I get the most "Google" calls about an LLC I officially dissolved several years ago.
Doesn't exist. No, I don't want to update the listing.
"But if you don't update, it will be dropped from Google searches." Wouldn't THAT be nice!

I'm always polite unless they start to get rude or throw some sort of big balls attitude around. Then it's bye-bye time.

That quadruples exponentially for sales people .

Ask an SEO salesperson: if you're a successful salesperson and if at least a few of your competitors are successful salespeople, how on earth can my company and all of those other companies you convince to go with you pop up on a given search engine's first page, much less into one of the top few spots?

I've yet to receive a cogent response.

The best sales people will not let you feel like you're being sold to. They will make you feel like you are in charge. And they won't waste their time if you're not in the market for what they're selling.

Best sales book I've ever read is "Non-Manipulative Selling".

With phone calls for the Google rankings we just started playing really dumb if we had time to talk.

"What is a Google" A web page, like a spider web? Just make up the dumbest responses possible. They will hang up.

With a business line, we have to answer every call in a professional manner, but once we know it is pure BS, like the Google rankings scam, the polite goes out the door, and we get rude. They called me, and want to waste my time, and rip me off. Eff em. Eff em good.

I use the three strikes method.

I politely decline
Next, if needed, I firmly decline
Last, if needed, I end the conversation.

Years ago, the local newspaper was calling me once a week trying to get me to subscribe - I wasn't interested - but they kept trying. The last one was a young-sounding girl and I stopped her spiel with a breathy "What are you wearing?" She hung up and I never got another call.

I have made my living in sales since forever.

I don't waste time. First question I always ask anyone I call "is this a bad time?"

I don't need to convince you to buy. My industry doesn't need to create primary demand. It is already there.

I solve problems.

No problems? I'm outta there because there is nothing for me to fix.

Some folks are a little slow. They give my profession a bad rep.

My wife had an LLC for a while being self employed. It of course showed up in the Georgia Secretary of State records once it was formed. We got calls from Janitorial Service companies for years trying to get contracts to clean our "offices."

One of my friends was a natural born salesman. He has never met a stranger, he has a great smile and can make anyone feel at ease talking to him. He is naturally friendly. He ended up selling drugs, the legal stuff, to doctors. That is a tough business. No doctor has spare time for salesmen.

He seems to do fairly well.

I'm glad my door is still locked.
We've actually had people argue with us and say we have to unlock it.

Year ago I had some door to door sales lady trying to sell me something that I did not want. I had a doberman that was a inveterate crotch sniffer. The sales lady was wearing a dress, and my dog just kept sticker her nose up her skirt. Normally I would stop the dog, but I wanted the lady gone so I let my dog keep doing it. She did leave fairly quickly.

I learned early on with that dog, that at night if I could not see a black and tan dog when the lights were off, to walk crouched over swinging my hands in front of my crotch to avoid a painful poke from a cold nose right to the family jewels.
