Not really, pain in the ass no doubt but it takes about 90 days.
Let me see if I can find the links that may help.

Then you are S.O.L. No on-line sales to Kalifornia. No on-line gun shop will sell to you. I suggest you take Harddrive's advice. Take the Porsche.

Red Beard, you gotta call them. Most now know about CA requirements.

So in order to buy ammo online in CA you basically have to become a licensed federal firearms dealer? Oh really that’s it?! Amazing....

No, you are a collector of curios and relics. You do not have to log your ammo purchases.

California has effectively banned online ammo sales. You have to get fingerprinted blah blah blah.

Buy in bulk when you drive to a free state.

If you get the COE and TYPE 03 you can purchase online.
I just purchased from Nanchez and from CMP.

Here is the information for the Class 3 FFL:

https://www.atf.gov/firearms/apply-license

Notice the exceptions for the TYPE 03.

It takes between 30 and 60 days. Just fill out the form pay the $30 fee and you have your Class 3.

Let me get the link for a California COE.

Welcome to the slippery slope. Next thing you know you will be doing reloads.

I have had excellent service from luckygunner.com !
Very good prices and fast shipping!

The trick is to buy the ammo before you need it or want it.

This will all settle down. Then you need to methodically build up some kind of inventory when its easier to find and buy... because there will be a next time.

Remember during the Obama years when you couldn't find anything. And the government was secretly placing huge orders from all the manufacturers in order to keep availability non existent.

So, you need at least six or seven guns, one in each room, and lots of ammunition to go with it. Without ammo you just have a gun collection.

I don't think I've bought anything but Personal Defense Ammo (I replace it yearly or so), since before Obama. I still have $5 Bricks of .22LR, 500 rounds. The price is still on the outside....

red-beard 06-10-2020 05:43 AM

And I still like GunBot 17hmr rimfire ammo for comparing ammo prices. Not perfect, but I've bought a lot of ammo from odd places (LAX ammunition!). But see above. I may need to replace some, at some point. But I'll wait out the panic sales.

My BIL is a big fan of guns, and has hundreds along with the corresponding ammo, but is unable to secure some of the hardware that he wants because of state laws prohibiting those purchases. He has my wife buy them for him, and he will pick them up when he visits...just a thought, do you have any out of state friends /family who will be visiting soon ?

KFC911 06-10-2020 05:56 AM

The shortage during the Obama years wasn't the entire time (except for .22lr), but prior to both election years and after. It was due to panic buying and hoarding for most calibers too. I didn't have an adequate supply of several calibers.... particularly .22lr. Don't dismiss the "supply & demand" profit motives either. I was visiting the local Gander Mtn. on a regular basis (other purchases) and saw them manipulate the "shortage" from day-to-day... particularly for .22. Tables full (on wheels) one afternoon, not there at all the next day, back again...gone :(. Selling the crap stuff while CCW was what I was after.....

Yes...I was a $ucker and eventually paid .08-.10/rd :(.

If you can find primers.

Porsche-O-Phile 06-10-2020 07:22 AM

Bingo.

I’ve been saying for years that when they want to ban reloading all they have to do is ban the primers since those are the only component the average person can’t produce. Take those away and reloading is as good as gone as an option.

Eventually they’ll do it. “Hazardous material restrictions” or some such nonsense will be the pretext.
