Nope..not an expert. Have learned a few things during my 76 trips around the sun, but I've also learned that the younger folks don't want to hear about it.

IMO an expert is someone that knows enough about a subject to give a lecture in it, but also knows when to shut up.

I know a lot of half-experts. I’d like to think I’m at 3/4, but I may be flattering myself...

He is at least buying the car with his own money with an loan from his great grandma. She said she did the loan to be sure that she would see him once per month.

Non of the members of that side of the family work on their own cars.
I don't think I had a car with AC until my mid to late 30s. As a teen I was happy to have a car that ran.

It probably had wind down windows too.

Time has moved on. They all have A/C now. And fuel injection. And OBD.

Related - Based on that I was an expert for a short period of time. It was kind of cool to be the only guy.

I suddenly became an expert when I abruptly announced to my coworkers I would no longer answer any of their work-related questions.

True story.

Expert? No but I did stay at a Holiday Inn recently.

On a more serious note, you don't have to be an "expert" to be able to say "I have more knowledge and/or experience than you"

Our thinking is aligned... I consider myself an expert at DOT/haz-mat matters. But I know when to shut up and I believe that I will be learning more about this subject every day of my career. The education never stops.

Ain't that the truth. I'm trying to remember what I was like when I was that younger person. Seems to me I'm likely to quote something my grandfather or dad told me, so I must have been at least listening.
