Atlanta Wendy's arson suspect, ID'd as Rayshard Brooks' girlfriend, arrested

Atlanta authorities arrested arson suspect Natalie White, 29, on Tuesday afternoon for allegedly burning down a Wendy's fast-food restaurant at the same spot where Rayshard Brooks, 27, was shot dead by police. White is also believed to have been Brooks' girlfriend.

The Fulton County Sheriff's Office announced the arrest on Twitter shortly after Brooks' funeral service.

"The Fulton County Sheriff's Office Fugitive Unit just apprehended Wendy's arson suspect Natalie White moments ago," the office said. "White is being booked into the Fulton County Jail right now. This case is being investigated by @ATLFireRescue Arson Unit. @FGTV @FultonInfo."

I worked at Wendy's in high school. AFAIK, they're all independently owned and operated. So, the owner of that burned down Wendy's, if he's not a super rich guy with a lot of other businesses, has lost his livelihood and will be fighting the insurance company for a long time. Meanwhile, he's probably still on the hook for rent and property taxes (to pay for the police and fire protection he doesn't get). Unless those workers are needed at other nearby Wendys, they're unemployed. Such a clusterfook all around. Anyone the police refuse to protect should have an open and shut case for a huge property tax refund and abatement. That might light a fire under some career politicians.

We have a family friend who owns 3 Wendy's franchises, and I would confirm that the above is true. She (and others) were/are pissed at cops, so they burned down the scene of the crime, which happens to be owned by an entity totally independent of all this mess. These protesters aren't insane. They're just selfish.

I understand her anger and desire to make a statement. But giving free pass (or even demanding it) for an arsonist is ridiculous. We used to be a society where 2 wrongs don't make a right. Or at least that's what I was taught back in kindergarten. Now we're becoming a society where the ends justify the means. Concoct/purport a noble reason for your actions, and that somehow makes them OK.
