In Meeshigun, the establishment MUST refuse service to a non-masker or possibly lose their license to do business.

In addition, all persons are highly encouraged to report non-maskers to the authoritahs.

Anybody know the German word for ‘non-masker-owned business’?

I remember when ebola was raging in Congo and a couple other places in Africa and infectious disease specialists from all over the world were flying into those countries to try to treat sick people and stem the tide of infections. Many of the local people, being ignorant and uneducated plus superstitious and susceptible to conspiracy theories, believed rumors that the health experts were actually bringing the virus into their country to kill them, so they attacked the doctors and nurses w machetes and killed several of them.

I will admit to looking down slightly on a society of people so superstitious and susceptible to completely unfounded rumors that also completely distrusted legitimate medical and public health advice. It all seemed unfathomable to me as a resident of a modern, advanced western country.

I no longer feel that way. The "anti-mask" and "reopen" movements are peopled by Americans every bit as stupid and paranoid as those Africans. I feel like I owe them an apology for ever thinking that Americans were so much more advanced and well informed. I'm seriously gob-smacked by my country right now. The Florida of the world.

Bolshevik....
Yeah it's the same out here. In the big lib cities it's required (mayor mandated). Small townships i.e. where I live. The only place that requires it is a national chain dollar store. LOL!

We are being herded into compliance like good little sheep, while the governor (Aussie dog) nips at our heels, and the farmer (big government) looks on with a pleased look on his face.

the anti-mask/openers might as well be directly attacking healthcare workers by not wearing masks, not social distancing, infecting others who then are sent to hospitals to be treated by those healthcare workers. The more they treat the more likely it is they get Covid.

So yes, they are attacking with virtual machetes. Wise up and think of your fellow citizens rather than be so self centereed

This is going to be a problem.

Walmart, Sam's Club to require masks nationwide

This thread is pretty funny.

Can someone answer a simple question?

How is this virus different from all the other viruses that have come before? In the past, we protected the vulnerable, isolated the infected and kept the rest of society going.

What is changed?

But that is impossible... the healthcare workers can't get the CV. They all wear masks. And Masks Work!TM... masks stop the virus.

Ok, get ready to duck..

here comes the machete... again...

Quite simply put, it is foolish to state/demand that "masks work!" as a solution to this virus/pandemic. Saying such a thing equivocates on the effectiveness of said masks. (as if there are no differences in mask effectiveness... a mask is a mask - not true)

Now if one wants to put a qualifier on "masks work!"... say; masks work to keep me from picking my nose and licking door-knobs... then great, you say that. But, even as the 2 quoted above say, even hospital grade PPE doesn't ensure the wearer will be containment free.

Anyway, referring to people, who make distinctions and understand the relative effectiveness of PPE, as machete swinging, anti-maskers, raped by masks simply outs your emotional stupor.

Come clean Island. Surely you are just yanking our chain and don't actually believe the scheit you post.

**Countries who acted quickly, had consistent leadership working together, demonstrated universal acceptance of social distancing and masks in public:

Taiwan- 451 total cases, 7 deaths (0.3/M)
Hong Kong- 1500 cases, 9 deaths (1/M)
Singapore- 46,000 cases, 27 deaths (5/M)
S. Korea- 13,000 cases, 289 deaths (6/M)
Finland- 7200 cases, zero deaths (0/M)
Japan- 22,000 cases, 982 deaths (8/M)

There are many others but these were exposed roughly at the same time as the US.

In the US we had mixed messages from federal, state, local, and CDC leadership, we were poorly prepared with PPE, and testing had a rough start. Lots of civil disobedience regarding social distancing from both the hard Left protesters and the hard Right, and mask wearing became a political punching bag.

USA- 3.5M cases, 139,000 dead (421/M, 1600/M in NY), and a widespread current surge.

The results speak for themselves. Universal acceptance of social distancing and masks in public are not the only solution or even the best solution, but a big piece of the solution in the battle against a virus that we still know very little about. An absence of teamwork and consistent leadership is the best way to get your azz kicked and we are the poster child for this right now. We in this country have accomplished some pretty amazing things when we pulled together including the entry into WWII and the moon landing in 69. I expect 2020 will go down in history as a time we were too busy bickering and name calling to come together and attack the problem as a nation. An opportunity missed.

In the USA the government can't force people to stay home or threaten them with large fines or imprisonment if they don't obey the order to stay at home.

Most of those countries with "universal acceptance" accepted it because if they didn't there would be universal fines or imprisonment.

You mean like Hong Kong? I guess you will need to be more precise Cab:

"In Hong Kong, which has sharply reduced new infections over the last two months, residents have adopted near universal mask use on their own. The move was in defiance of a government that banned face coverings last year amid protests over Chinese rule, and initially denied that masks were needed to quash the coronavirus."

I generally hate the LA Times for their opinews, but this is actual journalism for once.
