No question the Yugo was the worst design, worst execution, worst quality in modern automotive history. So much so it made the Renault of the same era look like a BMW in comparison. They were so bad that owners quit paying the note, let the finance company repossess them. That number grew to a point that no auto finance company would underwrite them, no one. The only dealers could get rid of them is put the sale on the customers credit card along with other inventive ways to turn the inventory.
Back in the early 90s, I worked with a guy that had a neighbor that had a Yugo. The guy had 10-12 parts cars (all parked in his yard) that he got dirt cheap so he could keep the one car running.

On a note related to one of the other posts farther up, I saw a Geo Metro convertible sometime in the last year being driven that was actually in decent shape, at least, it looked decent. I was shocked and surprised and quite amused.

The had to drain the fluids, and then shred them into to very small pieces, and mix that with road paving materiel and use it to pave roads. That locked the toxic materials into the pavement.

To change from low beam to high beam, the driver had to exit the car, and flip a switch on EACH headlight!

It was without a doubt the worst car ever made. And the citizens had to be rich, and wait for a long time to have the honor of buying one. Soviet engineering at its best.
That's a TRABANT, not a Skoda.

The Skoda was/is a fairly nice car.

We have had all three of those without any issues. OK, I did have to replace the alternator in the ex-rental at 135k miles. Dad has had many salvage title cars and none had issues. Then again, the guy that rebuilds them is a good friend. Some were parts from a totaled vehicle on a brand new unibody.

I would not buy and newer BMW. Nor Mercedes. No car with a stupid iPad sticking up out of the dash as if it were an afterthought. I hate cars that pipe the engine sound in through the speakers.

I would not get a 'vette unless it was a mid 60s or c5/c6 and none of the other 'vette of any year.

No crossovers anymore.

Korean cars would not bother me other than some come with the dash obelisk.

We were given a 2013 Nissan Rogue. It was not worth it.

I worked at a vw dealer in the early 90's. They were also a Yugo dealer, but hat just shuttered the yugo franchise right before I started there. My bay, was right at the end of the shop, and there was a 4 bay area, next to mine, that was filled floor to ceiling with parts that had to go back to yugo for warranty . More motors, and transmissions than one could ever imagine . It was overwhelming. Apparently, it was a miracle if a transmission made 40,000 miles

That's prolly the biggest money losing auto franchise that came here. And most likely the quickest..........

Ride in one first for 30 minutes. The first road trip we had to buy four pillows for the seats as none of us could stand the seats.

I mean the top of the list for some of the worst cars on the planet. Wretched pieces of dung. I feel sorry for anybody who owns one .
The ride quality is the least of my concerns, timing chains, head gaskets, transmissions, and as many wheel bearings and abs speed sensors as you can afford .

Ah, got it. It really was not worth the price of tax/title/license and we haven't had any quality issues with it, yet. I really can't believe they are popular.

But I thought all Nissan were the reliable perfect Japanese cars.

My wife had an appliance car, and Infinity, G-35X. It was a 100% reliable car in the 8 years she had it. Only some interior trim parts came unglued. IT was not a real difficult repair.

In my experience, nissans are the chrysler of the Japanese auto world.

I really like toyotas and always will but regretted owning every nissan that crossed my driveway.

It is really a shame about the British car problems since they have styled some really beautiful cars that if made by Toyota I'd buy. Some of their newer SUVs are the business styling wise.

But there it is. "Soul" is the most overrated property of any car that is meant to do a job.

My Dad was a staunch British car guy. Our family cars (!) were Jag sedans in the 1960s!

He had a few Lotus Super 7's, a Europa and late some later model convertibles.

He also like Italian sports cars: Double Bubble Coupe, GTV's, etc.

For a really smart guy, stupid smart, he had a bit of a problem when it came to cars.

The only British car I have ever owned was a Defender 90. I really wanted to like it. I tried. Nice Buick V8, good drive train, but the amount of ticky-tack BS I had to put up with was too much.

Funny, I have had Mopars all my life. I had issues with one that had the crappy 904LA transmission and we traded another with the 2.7l motor as it started knocking at 167k miles. Our 2000 Durango has 196k miles or so.

Dad has always had Maxivans as work vans. They were trouble free until he traded them at 150k miles. Always had the timing chain replaced at 80k miles though since they had that composite gear set phase for a while.

I did get stranded by my Ramcharger one night. That was my fault, I was in mud over the running boards. That was fun draining all the fluids.
