How to survive a knife fight

If you’re ever in a knife fight, watch this military video on how to defend yourself.

I tell the kids I coach wrestling. First line of defense is to run. With a knife involved, run even faster.

I would think to drop the knife and throw some sand in the eyes, maybe a rock or grab a pole. At that close of contact, no ones safe. Well maybe Steven Segal.

Shoot them before they are within 21 feet of you.

Bring a gun to a knife fight, not the other way around!

This hits close to home: A couple days ago a neighbor (1/2 mile away but I'll call that a neighbor) in his 60's opened the door to a stranger. The stranger started ranting about the older man stealing his drugs then he cut the man in the neck and hand. Don't know what the guy was thinking opening the door but then it's too late to run (too bad he didn't have a gun in his hand behind the door).

Fortunately neighbors and passerbys saw what happened and helped him before the wounds were fatal. The bad guy ran across the street into a dance studio with children. Fortunately a guy in the studio realized the guy was trouble and ran him out before anything happened. The bad was arrested a short time later.

There's a short instructional video starring Harrison Ford on this topic.

One of my buddies is a retired cop. He said they all heard the facts that a man with a knife can stab you if they are within 21 feet and every cop felt the same way, no way.

They practiced with magic markers, and cap guns. Sure enough 21 feet is a distance a knife wielder can stick you, even if you are armed and ready.

I prefer to avoid all fights but if I am in a knife fight I want a gun attached to the knife.

Knife fights are slippery and smelly and hot and visceral, you have to feel the other person's blood and sinew when you cut them with a knife. Even a small wound bleeds a lot because you're moving and sweating and your blood pressure is spiking, so both people will soon be covered in smelly hot blood and bodily fluids. It also hurts, and it's the kind of hurt that quickly takes away your ability to make rational decisions. This is all assuming that it's only a slash across the arm, not an actual stabbing. That's a whole different ballgame. I've been cut in a knife fight, and I've carried a knife of some sort for decades, because I want someone to back away and run if I have to pull it on them.

OK...is that why every military person in the history of the world from any country or region carried a butterfly knife? Seems that I remember them carry daggers...

Butterfly knifes are the strongest way to take a fixed blade knife and make it half the size, but in return you get a terrible handle geometry, no guard to speak of, no pommel, and no fingergrips. You do get a slippery smooth metal rod that is too thin for a proper grip, which is good.

About the same time that "switchblade" became "automatic knife". Even fighting weapons are P.C. now!

I take my Ford F350 into a knife fight.

If not, like Vash and others I am running or grabbing something longer than a knife, like a bazooka.
