Need Help with German Commercial Driving License Info

Okay...need some help from my Pelican brethren...

In Germany, the commercial truck/bus drivers have a C series license (specifically the driver I'm working with has a C1) - but my question is not with the license, it is with the medical standards required to obtain that license.

I need to know the medical standards and I'll need to be able to provide some type of document that shows it (even if that document is in German). I have found some bits and pieces of the vision, but I'm missing quite a bit of these parts:

1. hearing - looking for the audiometric readings
2. blood pressure - looking for the level where the driver will be normally qualified e.g. 140/90 mmHg.

Really would appreciate help. Trying to help a German licensed driver do some test work in the United States.

If he brings an international drivers license with him, isn’t that sufficient?

I have used an international drivers license from AAA in much of the world. An Expat trick is to only provide your international license. If they confiscate it, you can get another next time you are home for $50... better than paying a bribe.

Unfortunately no... For CDL purposes, the US only recognizes our licenses, Canadian and Mexican commercial licenses (due to reciprocity with those two countries). Any other country cannot drive a CDL type truck. But the FMCSA does issue waivers to commercial drivers from other countries under certain circumstances and they have in the past issued them to German C1 licensed drivers, likely due to Germany's high standards.

But the medical cards are a little problematic. I can get the waiver for the driver to use his C1 license here temporarily, but I'd like to also get a pass on the DOT physical. That's why I need to present info demonstrating that the German standard for the physical exam is high enough to warrant a waiver.

Thanks Rika, but still not seeing the specifics in that, only the general requirements and overview of the process. Unfortunately, I have to be pretty granular in this such as for a 5 year standard renewal process the C1 driver must be 140/90 mmHg but can be temporarily qualified at 160/110mmHg, etc.

Okay - getting close - THANKS! I'll get this converted so this ignorant american can read it. I did get the vision requirements found, etc. It's still the dang blood pressure that's stumping me...
