After an accident a few days ago with the little wife I finally made my appointment to get snipped. Ironically, the Urologist doing the procedure is a P-car owner and PCA member.

Anyone have any tips for a speedy recovery? I am hoping to be back to normal after a day or so.

Will I be able to head back to the gym in about 3 days? My pain threshold is pretty good, I mean, I live with a bulging disk in my back and chronic pain from that. I really do not want to be laid up very long. That is the main reason I have not done this sooner. I do not like to sit still.

Am I the only one who saw this and immediatley though of It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World?

Know a few people who had it done, (Im considering it, I have no desire for children) the concensus was that you are very sore for a few days and have to take vicodin. I mean, come on, you are having your scrotum cut open and having things torqued and cut. Look at the bright side.. after a week or so, no more condoms.

Just dont try to flush the system right after cutting.

Buy at least two pairs of "support skivies" one size smaller than normal - believe me on thie one.



Buy a flexible gel icepack. take 2 days where you take it really easy, no heavy lifting - etc... 3rd day resume more normal activities = although I would follow your dr's advice on working out.

The fun part is "flushing" the system when you are given the green light...

It's nice to be shooting blanks ...

Two days may be a bit quick of a hope to activity. Certainly took me longer to feel good about things.

plan on a week without strenuous activity. Use a jockstrap. Heed my doctor's advice - "you only have 1 chance to do this correctly". You definitely do not want complications "down there"

The best piece of advice I heard?

"Be sure to get the full anethesia rather than the local. You see, they 'cauterize' the tube in some cases and you never forget the smell of you own burning testicles."

My Dr told me he no longer offers local anethesia because he had too many people flinch and cause bigger problems.

He also warned me on taking it easy for a week. He told me the folks that don't heed his advice typically arrive with their nuts in a wheel barrow. "grapefruit sized" is not uncommon...

Been there. Done that.
Talked the girlfriend into a "test run" the next day to make sure it still worked. My doctor thought I was kidding whenI told him.
My understanding is that everyone is different. I could walk around okay the next day, but found hockey was out of the question for a couple of weeks. I've heard of guys being on the couch for a week.
Wait until you get the test before taking any chances. Sorta like getting caught in the rain with a wet paint job when you should have waited.
I had "ghost pains" a year later which my doctor said was normal.
You now have the 2 things woman desire the most.

Give this A LOT of thought Jared! I thought the same as you when I was your age. Because if you have the snip, it's not always 100% to correct it if you decide to have children later.

That is what I am afraid of. I keep being told to just take a couple of days off and relax, do nothing.

I have been waiting for 2 years for things to slow down enough for me to do this. This is not a good time right now but I think a right time will never arise.

I guess I'll take a week off from the gym as well. Then go from there.

Piece of cake. I didn't need to lie on the couch for even that day. Although the surgery does sap your energy, and you are sensitive to exertion, I changed tires that evening. The worst part was the shaving. Pay some attention to that, the better job you do, the less chance of complications during healing.

As an aside, I had local anesthetic, and a foreign-born physician. While operating he said: "You Americans are chicken-shi*, you'd never give yourself a vasectomy." Apparently my doc was confident enough of his abilities that he didn't want someone else.
