I felt your pain from here and got misty eyed. Sitting here on an iPad with my little Delilah on my lap; it’s gotten to where I don’t even notice when she jumps up and plops down on me. She’s just there. Our two dogs really do play an oversized role here, serving as the glue of my household. As my children grow older, they are growing apart, but the dogs help keep them all connected. It’s priceless. When they’re away, no texts gets a quicker response than one of a photo of the dogs.
Hopefully in time you’ll just have pleasant recollections.

Yes condolences all around. Thanks for sharing. Not sure I will be up to the task when our Scout joins Colbi in just a few years.

Sorry to hear this as well. Dogs fill our hearts where even most people can't get.

Sorry to hear. It's always hard to lose a good dog. The pictures exude "super happy dog" - she must have been a hoot in person!

To each and every one of you... A special thank you from the bottom of my heart. I thought I was done crying until I read your responses. So many caring people. It's unbelievable the compassion shown.
Maxx and I are doing ok. Poor Maxx though, a 4" slice right through his bum. The surgeon said they think they got all the cancer. They had to remove his right rectal wall to make sure the cancer was gone. I'm taking him to an acupuncturist for follow up care. Thank you all again.

So sorry for your loss. Best of luck with poor Maxx. Suzy is almost 20 and we are just hoping she'll pass in her sleep at some point. It is never easy. They make our lives so much more full and then when they leave us, the hole is deep.

Condolences. Cried for two days when my 19yo Golden passed. 2 months and I had to get another Golden. She passed at 13 and had to get another golden puppy the next day because my Mom with Alzheimer's would not get out of bed after. The puppy took my mom back 5 years in her alzheimer's. Her memory got much better and she started cooking again, so she could feed the puppy off her plate. Mom passed and that puppy became my Diabetic Medical Alert dog.

It's good that you still have Maxx, take care of him and he'll do the same. Maybe get a pup to keep him company? Seems like a good time. I know it ain't about me, but it's been 4 years since I lost my buddy. I couldn't bear to get another dog at the time, I said I would when I retired. Well I'm retired but still can't do it. Waited too long. Guess I'm scared of ever feeling like that again. No wonder the wife says I'm an intensive bastage. ![]() ![]() Last edited by sammyg2; 08-13-2020 at 11:58 AM.. |

Buck, I cannot express any deeper condolence than that for the loss of Colbi; your best friend. I can attest that the pain subsides and all that is left is the love they gave us, without condition. I could not respond to you when you first posted because I felt and shared your sense of tremendous loss.
I lost my Daisy over 18 months ago, and from time to time I still shed a tear for her absence. For many weeks after her death, I could not even mention her name as it was so painful. BUT, though the sharp pain of her passing lurks; it is now replaced by the happy memories of her and all the other ghost dogs I have loved and lost. And she is with all of them. Personally, I see their loss as part of what they give us. They do teach us how to live, but they also teach us how to grieve; how to deal with death. And that is ok, who else has the courage to kindly tutor such important lessons. The way I make sense of why, why they come to us, stay with us and then suddenly are gone, is because they are teaching us to be unselfish, that we have to give them back, from whatever great place they came from.

Another thank you for all your thoughts. And yes Sammy the good thoughts have been saddening yet have been also uplifting.
I'm going to get another pup, (I just retired the end of July). I love the companionship of dogs but also out of respect and admiration for Colbi and the breed. All dogs are wonderful animals but there is just something special about heelers.

I grew up with four Heelers. Lost my own Heeler a few years ago. I always keep some of her ashes close to me. I understand and feel your loss. They are a special breed.

For what it's worth, I don't think we ever really get over losing our little four legged family members. It's been not quite three months now that my Bentley passed and I have still been crying at times. It is a very difficult transition in anyone's life when their best boy, or girl has passed along.
I don't mean in any way to high Jack this thread, I am just kinda glad that I found this topic as it has helped me deal with the loss of my boy. I wish anyone who has lost a pet, peace. I don't know what else to say. It's hard. Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk
