For personal, I text within my immediate family individually and sometimes a group text. I like texting for extended family, so I don’t have to talk to them. Keeps it short.
For work, I prefer email for documentation, but do text sometimes. |

Text Snail mail Conversation. And at that, ALL calls go to message first then I know what they want. Don't you just love it when you listen to a message, call back and they start at the beginning like they never left a message? That's why I hate to talk to people. |

People who text: a) assume you have time to constantly check your phone and b)expect an immediate response. If it is important leave a message and even call back. If it isn't then I'll get to it when I have a chance. I refuse to be ruled by my phone. |

This thread really is telling about ages.
I exclusively text except with my 88 year old mother who can’t handle anything tech other than her TV clicker. My 89 YO dad and I text regularly. My age...65. |
Surprised by the responses.
I had to check the dates on this thread, I thought for sure it was another one of those resurrected from years ago. |
Text all the time. To family and work folks. I'm a two thumbs texter. Some people talk-to -text. I should start to do that.
All you guys that don't text need to update your flip phone and start. |
What planet do you geezers live on?
My parents are in their late 70s, and text all the time. |
Every day. With my kids not least. Letting them know I love them. Mostly with a silly selfie. Just one way and return. No back and forth.
|
Just made me look.. I sent / received 227 texts today.. and that was a slow day.. and yes, I’m old.. lol..
|
I'm guessing many of you guys are attached to your phones?
I'm not... I'm gonna purchase extra bags of fescue too.... just because :D |
One more thing ;)....
My elderly parents' phones (when texting was enabled) were under constant fishing attempts via "text" by scammers/hackers.... some quite clever and insidious... but they had no clue. They never texted back, but the attempts were non-stop until I disabled it. The common denominator.... a family member's phone has been to China a few times... go figure :(? |
Depends on the recipient and the subject. It is very direct, immediate and convenient.

One spin to all of this.
I recently sold my Porsche 928 to a younger guy (think millennial) - 28 years old. He has been texting me frequently about the car and random questions etc, the texts can be used as a paper trail to verify a conversation and details, similar to emails rather than a conversation which can turn into a he said / she said. |
Ill take texting over a phone call any day. What chaps my hide is when I text someone and they call me back right away. NOOOOO Idiot, I dont want to talk to you or I would have called! My brother does this all the time, and no he is not doing something like driving or whatever.

You wanna communicate with me? My terms... Don't text me bro :D |
I don't send texts if I can help it. I occasionally get them, but I don't check them very often.
Sometimes people ask why i didn't respond to their text. I tell them that I will, eventually when I get around to it. If they wanted an immediate answer they should have called. There's a reason they call it a phone and not a texter. |
