Do you text?

Seems as if a lot of folks do, and do you assume the intended recipient does also?

I have texting disabled fwiw (for all phones that I control).

Eliminates a lot of scammers :)

Don't text me bro :D

peppy 08-30-2020 06:11 AM

I do text, but I hate it.

Starless 08-30-2020 06:16 AM

Only when I have to or when there are people around that I don't know or want them to hear my conversation, like a Dr's office, a store, noisy surroundings, etc.

Baz 08-30-2020 06:17 AM

No. That's what email is for.

GH85Carrera 08-30-2020 06:18 AM

Yes.

I resisted for a long time, and I figured if I had a phone in my hand, just call.

Then I stared eating lunch with a buddy regularly. I could text "Lunch Interurban" and he knew we ate at the same time, and all he had to reply was yes or no to let me know if he was available.

Now with a business partner, I almost always text him "Talk" and he will call back or reply 5 min. or whatever time is better for him to call.

Heck I even text my wife in the next room on occasions.

"Bring me another beer."

Only for basic info and not for a back and forth conversation.

I mostly hate it.

vash 08-30-2020 06:38 AM

.....like a 14 year old girl, only much much slower.

We even use it at work now.

MMiller 08-30-2020 06:40 AM

I use it a lot for business, works well, information comes quick , gets rid of all the wasted time with pleasantries that come with a phone call..

stevej37 08-30-2020 06:41 AM

only if absolutely necessary.
A lot of them, I ignore....they figure it out. :)

My daughter is a text machine and I have gotten used to texting...texting can be very efficient. Family texts hit us all at once.

I text with my buddy that is in rough shape. When I get to his house to take him to the Doc’s I text “outside” and out he comes:)

dad911 08-30-2020 07:30 AM

All the time. Customers and Subcontractors.

My kids like snapchat. I hate it.

KFC911 08-30-2020 07:32 AM

If ya can't understand my drawl....

My speeling and tuping are even badlier :D

fastfredracing 08-30-2020 07:40 AM

Texting broke the chains the tied me to a telephone. I love, and almost prefer text. I do hate long texts . There are times when a phone call is appropriate.
I tell customers, that text will get the fastest response. Even if it just, a " hello, got your message, will get back to you shortly . Takes me 30 seconds, on the other hand, when I pick up the phone, I get cornered into 10 minute conversations all day .

wdfifteen 08-30-2020 07:50 AM

"Hey Siri, text Caleb," saves me a ton of time, especially if I'm driving. I don't have to wait for him to answer to talk to him, don't have to leave a message if he doesn't answer. I can send a text in less than half the time it takes to make a call.

KFC911 08-30-2020 07:52 AM

I don't answer my phone either :)

I had to be accessable via phone/pager (back in the day)....toted a Motarola bag phone around.... 24x7x364 (yay Christmas ;)).

If you need to reach me.... well... good luck :D!

I do return missed calls, from known numbers...

Eventually.

wildthing 08-30-2020 07:55 AM

Hmmm... I suppose this is a third world Gen X thing but back then, phone calls were like 20 cents a minute during peak hours, while text messages were two cents. (For reference the average income was $100 a month. My income then was something like $300 a month.)

So we texted more because it was cheaper. And then it just stuck. I have probably texted more than I called ever since I got my own cell phone in 1998.

I text daily. I text my mom daily. The missus and I and the kids (in their 30s) also text almost daily.

When trying to talk to folks that are busy or at work, or may be in the middle of something, texting is nice, because they can get back to you when they aren't too busy to get back or answer the phone.

Also, if you have Apple phones and PCs, then you can text from your PC or phone and they show up on both (incoming and outgoing are, or can be, replicated across both platforms).

Texting is fantastic.

Rusty Heap 08-30-2020 08:13 AM

hellllllllllll noooooooooooo

peppy 08-30-2020 08:20 AM
