iPhone question...

Or maybe it's a general phone question.

My brother has been sending me pics of his move via text messaging via his iPhone. I get the messages on my iPhone and want to down load them to my computer. To do this I usually 'tap' the picture in his message and use the 'mail' function to send it to my email address.

It usually works OK when I 'hear' the 'swish' when the phone sends it out. A lot of times I don't hear a 'swish' and I don't get a message in my email.

Is there another more efficient way to get the pictures off my phone?

I'm on T-mobile if that helps any.

If you have a Windows based computer it is made harder by Apple, no doubt on purpose.

You should get any email you send to yourself. You might look in the spam filter and see it they got marked spam because you sent several messages in a row.

Or save the photo so you can send a few at a time.

What I'd do is save the photo to the phone, then email the photo to yourself. Separate steps, but will probably work better.

If you use an Apple computer, then there are multiple ways to do it. With Windows, you probably only have the one, at least, right at your fingertips.

You can just save the photo to your photos along with the pictures you have taken. The trick with a Windows based computer is to find them. The iTunes program is the worst bit of software ever written on the planet and completely useless with the photos on your phone. They make it it useless as a interface with the phone. I only use it to back up my phone to my computer.

If you plug in the phone it should show up as a USB drive. You will have to unlock the phone for the computer to see the folder. If you have lots of photos on your phone the trick is finding the photos. All you will see is a folder named Apple Phone. Then a folder named DCIM.

I have several folders in the DCM folder starting with 100APPLE and then 101Apple and so on. The highest number folders are the newer images. I have to sort them by date to have a chance to find what I want, as they are arranged by name and only Apple knows how that names are chosen.

At least you can copy the images in bulk that way.

I finally got the emails I'd sent to myself. Just took time. If I'd downsized the photos it probably would have happened almost instantly, but small photo files don't cut it for me any more.
Thanks for the help guys. I've learned a few things with this frustration. I won't put iTunes on any computer I own as it once wiped out a bunch of songs I'd made copies of on my own from CD's. Took hours and it wiped them out in seconds.

Yes, big images take longer to send. And your internet speed has something to do with that as well as the providers servers.

I'm of the opinion that the providers servers (T-Mobile's) are the weak link in the system, but could be wrong.

Yea, iTunes is even bad about messing up music. I ripped all 100+ CD that I own to a folder and then copied that entire folder of music to the place where I gave iTunes access to it. They couud not make it more complex to to copy it to the phone. No matter what iTunes does, it will not get access to my MP3s. I still have all the CDs but it takes a while to RIP them.

As I mentioned I only use iTunes to back up my phone to me computer. I have a 256 gig phone and 60 gig of stuff on it. Gotta back it up local.

Is the email @t-mobile.com or something else like @gmail.com, @att.net, etc....

If so, the servers are theirs (not T-mobile). Just FYI.

Wouldn't it have to go thru a T-mobile server before going to an @gmail.com sever?

Nope, your app should know what the Gmail sending and receiving servers are (imap or smtp and pop3) and will send and receive directly through those.

T-mobile is more like a state highway system, your mail is just another car on the road.

Your mail will travel the t-mobile state highways until it gets to the interstate, then it'll travel interstate until it gets to the gmail state highway where it will travel until it gets to the gmail servers.

The closest thing to something that would be like a T-mobile server is your phone on the t-Mobile network.

the traffic (email) will roughly follow the path below from phone to PC. the only servers are the 2 Gmail servers, then there are the end points, your phone and home PC.

phone ----t-mobile network----|---internet---|---gmail network----gmail sending server---gmail receiving server---gmail network---|---internet---|---your isp---your home PC

My sister in-law and daughters send me text messages and images and/or videos all the time. I use a software app called "EaseUS MobiMover" and it works great. Direct from iPhone 11 to PC.

If you have an Amazon Prime account they can be backed up onto the cloud automatically (pics are free) and you just pull the ones you want from the Amazon backup.

Ask your brother to mail them to you.
That way you can view them on your phone and your computer.

If you want it just on your phone, just hold you finger on the picture and a drop down menu will show to copy, save, more etc.

No need to sync or email it to yourself.

Use onedrive ... you get 1TB (some plans allow 5 accounts so 5TB total, check the latest offers) for a nominal cost for backing up your documents, pics and vids across all devices.

If you have a gmail account, you can install google photos app, and they will automatically back up to your google account.
