Once in a while I have had occasion to do something similar to a fuel tank and I generally use a small outdoor fountain pump. Thus far, I haven’t clogged one up or ruined one.

When I’ve had to do something similar in the past to a fuel tank, I used a small outdoor fountain pump. Thus far, I haven’t clogged one up or ruined one. It’s also what I use to clean metal fuel lines.

I thought about using an old bilge pump I have lying around, but to be honest, I couldn't find it within five min of looking, so I just used this fuel pump we had lying around.

Still working on this thing. Here's what's happened:

- Cleaned the tanks, the solvent worked well, although I also used it on something else (non-stainless) and it dissolved that!

- Engine is out and at Mountune being rebuilt

- New seals came in this week.

- New tires (good luck finding 12" performance tires! - that was difficult)

- Re-ran the heater hose lines through the center

- Replaced all the fuel lines

- Realized the fuel pumps were shot, so I replaced those with modern ones.

- Finished up the brakes - had to replace nearly 100% of the components

- Electrical - still had some issues, I fixed those.

- Suspension - finally ordered the (custom) new shocks from England and got them delivered and installed

Working on the interior and the engine bay tonight!

I can't imagine trying to get "performance" 12" tires. These days anything remotely performance oriented is tough to get it 14" and 15". I have to assume that even going the specialty/designed-for-vintage route when talking about 12" is tough.

It's hard to imagine "175/70R12" being considered performance. I think I've had econoboxes back in the late 80s that ran on 175-75R13 and 175-80R13. And the only "performance" aspect of them was the lack of performance capability.

Indeed, it's all relative. Let me clarify the word "performance" in this context. It means getting a tire wide enough to sort of match the previous Goodyear Rally Special tires that were on there previously. Nearly everything else is a 145 or so width tire which is basically a pizza cutter. I believe that these 175 tires are off of a Ford Cortina?

SEEN SUPER WIDE GOLF CART 13X40X8'' and 14x35x8'' no idea if road legal but WIDE

are those 4'' or 100mm bolt circle or 4 1/2''

Wayne 962 10-27-2022 12:13 PM

I spent about 10 hours looking at tires, and those were something I looked at, but I think the speed ratings are low...

I don't remember the bolt circle off the top of my head. But I found the tires, so we're good for now.

old MINI maybe used the bitty ones ford cortina was 13'' I think

Tobra 10-27-2022 12:49 PM

Looks like the motor is out of Cortina too, Not the Colin Chapman flavored one.

Dig the color, look like wheels off a Fiat or something, Campagnolo maybe? What size tires do Mini Coopers run?

I think original minis came with 10" and/or 12" wheels and the tiny 145 section width tires that Wayne mentioned.

Tobra 10-27-2022 02:20 PM

I suspect you could get some 13" track tires. When will you ever drive that thing in the rain?

Who balanced those tires for you? All the ugly, stick on weights on the front of the wheel?

I would kick them square in the nuts.

How about some 14" wheels?

LJ851 10-27-2022 03:13 PM

Later Minis use a 165/60 12 and some sporty tires are available in that size.

Alex and the other droogs are so happy you're making such good proggy on the Adams.
Call him when it's ready; likely you can find him having a Moloko plus down at the milk bar, or enjoying a little Ludwig Von at his home with a guest or two!

More probe progress. Very difficult to install new seals and this trim. What a pain.
